Everyone all has regrets, some worse than others. For a group of college students coming to visit home it was visiting the cursed area of town. Lake Kasai, once known as Lake Apollo was said to have supernatural effects and that anyone who traveled there never returned. Those who did return were said to be insane. The young adults decided that seeing if the rumors and legends were true would be a good idea. They would take that decision back if they could.
It was late in the afternoon, the group, a range of diversity between personalities and ethnicities, were walking through their once beloved home. Some were staying with their families, and those without families or a house within town had been staying in the old run down motel at the west side of town. It was very rare that they visited home due to the amount of work poured onto them by their college known as the Garrison. It was a prestigious college, the hardest to get into, but they made it.
They had all climbed past the tall fences slowly getting covered in rust together, keeping the only one with a weapon, Keith Kogane at the front. They made it to the lake, but ended up falling into a cave. Did they survive? Yes, otherwise this story wouldn't be told, but they would be running for a long time after. They didn't know that though.
Besides, that incident was days ago.
A steady pace of footsteps could be heard going down the sidewalk. A male with a dark red hoodie, black jeans, and white sneakers walked in silence. His raven mullet was what differentiated him from most because who had an 80s mullet anymore? His name was Keith Akira Kogane, an orphan, he hadn't talked to his adopted parents since a certain loss. Keith's eyes, once silver, now a deep shade of violet. It was like someone colored them in.
He fiddled with his knife in his pocket, reaching a hand up to fix the hood that he used to try and hide his face. Keith had been uneasy since the incident at the lake, and his friends were only now deciding to regroup at their old hangout spot. Keith didn't like this though, all of them all in one area? He was sure that he wasn't the only one that probably felt as though they were being followed everywhere.
No one really walked along the streets in the small town they called home, Hell people barely drove their old beat up cars. That's why Keith didn't trust the sound of footsteps behind him. He turned to survey the concrete behind him, but nothing was there. Keith frowned, shaking it off and continuing with his mission to the park. Keith gave a small sigh of relief as he stepped onto the tar of the old parking lot which led to a rickety playground, one made of most wood. Keith walked onto the mulch, looking at his friends who had already arrived. The only one not there was James Griffin.

"So, you all needed to talk huh?" Keith asked as he lowered his hood, gaze traveling between everyone, even Kova who was sitting beside Narti.
"Yeah we do!" Lance through his hands up after turning from Lotor who he was just making fun of. Lotor fell asleep with his eyes open so it was bound to happen.
"I somehow dumped all of the water in my pool onto my neighbor's house after I got into an argument with him! Then whenever I step in the shower the water just goes around me and doesn't hit me." Lance frowned while making a ton of hand gestures to try and express his frustrations more so. "Not only that, but now I have this in the middle of my beautiful smooth skin!" Lance yelled as he pulled his shirt collar down a little, it revealed a beautiful blue Jasper that glowed ever so slightly.
"You think that's bad?" Allura piped up. "I look like this!" She yelled as she pulled her hood down and face mask that she used to hide new features on her body. There were pink markings under her eyes and the hair that was once black was now white. Then there were her ears, they were hideous! They looked like elf ears.
"Allura!" Keith yelled and pulled her hood back up. At that same moment a white van was driving by. Keith had a look of panic on his face. "Listen, weird things are happening to us and we all of gems in our bodies, we can't taken them out either, I tried, but listen there are-"
Keith was cut off by James suddenly appearing between Lotor and Allura. "AH SHIT SORRY!" He seemed panicked. His pupils were green, the gem he touched gave him the ability of teleportation. His face was red, he was in between a king and a queen. Everyone seemed to know their abilities, though everyone was puzzled with Allura.

James could teleport.

Narti could read minds, hear the thoughts of others.

Matt could lift objects with his mind.

Lance could bend water.

Lotor could cause illusions, but he's only casted them on himself so far.

Allura was unknown.

Keith was unknown.

"Welcome James, but seriously we need to leave and now, I don't know if you noticed but we are being watched." Keith had a strong sense of urgency, and he wasn't sure if the others had that same sense.
"Oh yeah! There's been a van sitting outside of my house, hasn't asked for candy or wifi yet though." Lance smiled, he clearly wasn't aware of what was happening.
"We need a new meeting place," Lotor finally spoke up.
"I agree," Narti nodded in agreement as did everyone else present.
"Oh we can meet at the nail shop!" James suggested. "My father owned it, and I have the keys," he smiled as he held them up. "There's a newer shop so they'll go to that, not the abandoned one. Besides it's near the forest." He shrugged.
"Good idea, we should split up, regroup and maybe learn more about our abilities there." Matt said, looking past Keith, eyes trained on the van that parked across the street. "We should go now-"
"Yeah about that, I don't think we can because they got out of the van and don't seem too pleasant and happy to see us." Lotor said quickly, backing up with the rest of the group.
It didn't take long for Matt to recognize them and what weapons they carried. "Shit, those are guns!"
"No, not guns, darts, they want to take us down. I've came into contact with them before this for other reasons, they started me and dragged me out." Keith shook his head. His heart was beating faster, he took his knife out, but what would that do? He took a deep breath as some of the masked soldiers came out from behind the car. Suddenly he dropped his knife, eyes narrowed. "I know what to do.."
"Then do it!" Matt yelled, "And Lance, use your ability! There's a water tower over there, we can't control our powers and you seem the most in control." Matt couldn't use his, if he did he'd bleed.
Lance nodded, mood changing from a sarcastic and joking one to a dead serious tone. His eyes glowed a bright blue as he raised his hand the water tower busted, water flying to the sky and and to him.
Keith took another step towards and their weapons instantly focused on him. "You both fucked with the wrong guy," he smirked as he ran forwards. His teeth grew sharper, hands turning black with fur and claws, wolf-like ears, yellow eyes, a long tail, and black feet which had sharp nails at the end of the toes. red markings glowed on his body, the stone he touched was Blood Beryl, and his ability was Ferality, the ability to turn into a wild beast. He stood at almost 8 feet tall, a force not to be reckoned with.

The group clutched one another in fear as the two used their abilities, though in reality they were also scared of what Keith had become. Could he even control it? They were about to find out. The last thing that could be heard were the sounds of the triggers on their dart guns being pressed down.

This was where it all went down.
