Logan glanced at the document Holly created. "I can't. It seemed like a good idea when you suggested it, but now ..." He let the paper fall to the desktop beside Holly's arm.
"Come on, this might be the only opportunity you ever have, that either of you have, to be a family. Tell me, when will you ever have a chance like this again? Who else would forge a document for you? I mean you might get my dad to do it." She frowned. "Never mind, probably not." She pushed away from the desk and rose to stand beside him, placing a hand on his arm.
He stared beyond her to where the paper now lay abandoned on the desk. He didn't want to admit it, but she was right. There would never be a chance like this again. She was the only one who would offer to do it. She was also probably correct, Halt wouldn't offer to do it.
Shifting his gaze to meet hers, he stared down into her eyes. "All right, I'll go speak to Crowley.
"We will go speak to Crowley," she told him.
His face scrunched. "We?"
"You shouldn't have to do it alone. After all, we're in this together. Come on."
"Wait, we're going right now?" He looked ready to be sick at the thought.
"There's no time like the present!" She snatched the paper off the surface of the desk, tucked it into a pocket, grabbed his arm and dragged him from the room. They wove their way through the corridors heading toward his father's office. If she didn't hurry him along he'd probably chicken out.
They never made it to the office. Halt appeared and stalled them part of the way there. "Ah, just the two people I need to speak to."
"Uh, yeah, Dad, what is it?"
"I need the two of you to do a little errand for me."
"What kind of errand?" she asked warily.
"I need the two of you to intervene in this whole Cassandra and Will situation," Halt told her.
"Why us?" Holly asked, propping her hand on her hips with a frown.
He scratched at his beard a moment before he finally answered, "I think they might be a little more inclined to listen to the two of you than me."
She folded her arms over her chest and narrowed her eyes on her father. "You're afraid of Aunty Cassandra aren't you?"
He dropped his arm and gave her an affronted look. "I most certainly am not!"
"You are too! You're afraid of her!"
He straightened his back. "I am a King's Ranger and I do not fear Princess Cassandra! Now will you please just go and speak to her?"
Holly snorted and pushed past her father. He wasn't quite meeting her eyes, which told her everything she needed to know. He was definitely afraid of confronting Aunty Cassandra.
"Right, Dad, don't worry we'll go handle the fearsome beast in frills for you!"
He pointed off down the hallway. "Go before I decide to strangle you with your bowstring!"
She gasped, placing a hand to her chest, sending him the most aggrieved look she could muster. "How dare you suggest such a grievous thing! You would mistreat a bow in such a way. Shame on you, I'm thoroughly offended by such a thing!"
Logan grabbed her by the arm and dragged her away before Halt could follow through with his threat.
Holly shook Logan's hand loose as soon as they were well away from her father. "Let go, I'm not going to go back and fight him."
