Your POV

I was sitting with Ethan, Emma, and David at the table as we waited for David's colleague to arrive before eating. "So I'm assuming work is well?" Ethan asked David before taking a sip of his drink. David grinned like a child before nodding. "Very well. In no time we'll be wiping our noses with dollar bills," David joked. I shook my head as I laughed at him. He looked over at me, setting his hand on my leg and squeezing it lightly. "Did I tell you that you look glowing this evening?" He leaned over to whisper in my ear. I smiled, muttering a thank you before looking across the table at Ethan who was staring at us intently, probably criticizing me. I cleared my throat before taking a sip of my tea and turning to Emma. "Have you and Ethan fell in love yet?" I asked causing a blush to immediately rise to her cheeks. "Y/N, don't tease them," David chuckled as Ethan nearly choked on his drink. It was better than the attention being on me. "It was just a question," I shrugged, playing innocent. The doorbell rang causing everyone to look up, listening to our butler as he let the colleague in.

My heart stopped and the wind was nearly knocked from my lungs as Grayson walked into the room, a smirk planted on his face. "Grayson! So glad you could make it," David stood up and hugged the man I was having an affair with. "I'm glad you invited me. Wow, what a beautiful sight," He referenced towards the room but his eyes flickered towards me. "Oh, don't boost my head up too much. This is my wife, Y/N, and our dear friends Ethan and Emma." We all stood up to greet him. "Ethan lives next to me across the bay!" Grayson pulled Ethan into a tight hug. He said hello to Emma, kissing the back of her hand lightly before turning to me. "And a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. (Y/L/N)," He kept eye contact as he kissed the back of my hand as well. "Likewise, Mr. Dolan," I said a little more quiet than usual, taking my hand away from him. He smirked as I did so before turning back to David as he began speaking. "Well," David clasped his hands together before gesturing towards the table, "Let's feast!"

Ethan's POV "How long have you two been working together?" I asked Grayson and David, trying to make table chat. "Just a week or so," David answered. "Yes, we met through a mutual friend," Grayson commented, his eyes flickering to Y/N. He was seated across from her at the table, and the smirk plastered on his face had yet to leave. "Grayson, where are you from? Obviously not here because of your accent, and I remember you telling me you moved to the states long ago before joining the war, " David asked. "I'm from England. I moved here when I was twenty three," Grayson locked eyes with Y/N this time, staring at her. She shifted her gaze down to her food. She was usually bold and confident in front of people, but I knew she was uncomfortable in this situation. And it appeared as if David noticed too, the way his eyes flickered back and forth between them. "I remember Grayson telling me all of these war stories when he first moved here," I chuckled as I broke the silence that had fallen over the table. David looked at Grayson.

"You don't look like the type to go to war. Was it a challenge?" He asked. "Most definitely," Grayson laughed, "Especially because I left the woman I loved behind at home." I watched Y/N as her eyes widened slightly. "Really? What happened to her?" David pressed on. "I left her to go to war, but when I came back she had ran off with another guy. Sad story, I know," Grayson took a bite of his food. Everyone looked at Y/N as she slid her chair back and stood up. "I need a cigarette. If you would excuse me," She didn't make eye contact with anyone as she walked out of the dining room. "Sorry about that. Her nerves get bad sometimes," David smiled apologetically. "No need to apologize! It's fine. But I was hoping you could show me to your bathroom," Grayson stood up. "Down the hall. First door on your right," David smiled. Grayson thanked him quietly, glancing at me before leaving the dining room. But David was the only one oblivious to the fact that that's not where he was really heading.
