chapter four | star light

"Lisa, slow down!" Looking over her shoulder, the young girl sees her younger sibling struggling to catch up, leaning against a tree to catch his breath while holding onto his chest. "You have long legs, I get it, I'm still growing up!"

The female laughs at her brother's words, they've been out of the house for an hour since their father finally allowed them. Their older sister was just down the hill and said she wouldn't bother to climb up with them, simply staying at the bottom and waiting for them to come back.

"Stop being such a wuss, imagine once you get into the same business as father? Hm? What do you think that will be like?" She asks while starting to walk again when her brother reaches her. They now walk side by side beneath the shadows of trees, silently hearing the humming of birds, rustling of evergreen leaves, and smaller animals running of their short legs.

It felt to go out for an evening, something that now that they're both more grown up, it was hard to do. Father requires more of their presence in his working world as they become closer of age.

And especially the younger boy, who is now three years away from becoming of age to start going with their father into meetings and arrangements. And in all honesty, Lisa already felt scared for the boy.

It came to no surprise that both of them were exposed to glimpses of it, sometimes not even glimpses of course, and seeing them happen right before their eyes. Both of them wonder, how can someone like heir older sister handle such a thing, both remember when one of the members who worked for their father betrayed them, and therefore, their father killed the man mercilessly before their eyes.

"This is what happens in our world." They remember him say as he sighed while closing the male's eyes as blood trickled down the dead man's forehead and staining their floor and carpet. "When someone betrays you — give them no chances, for you don't know if it's been the first time or not."

Lisa and Renjun reach the top of the hill, looking over the far away city, the tall, modern buildings with advanced technology helping them stand strong, it was only daytime but they still look just as catching as when the two siblings watch over them in the night, when they shine with vibrant colours.

They sit at the edge, Lisa staring over at the distance while her brother just lets his body fall back onto the grass.

"Do you think I can be a good leader?" The boy questions, his sister at that questions turns over and Renjun had his eyes up to the sky. "Do you think I will be able to protect our family? The group?"

"Of course, you will." She also lays back, her head being supported by her younger brother's arm, she looks up at him and finally their eyes meet. "I bet you'll be even better than father."

"Sounds like an impossibility." Renjun scoffs. "We all know that father is a very powerful man — and therefore resulting in him being one of the most powerful leading in our world."

Lisa softly laughs as her hands come up, brushing her fingers on her brother's cheeks and running her index finger down his nose. "Well, but I'm sure you will be stronger." She whispers, "and I know you will be able to protect us from anything and everything — and if not, I'll take care of you." She jokes.

The boy jokingly swats the back of her head with his hand, both laugh and Lisa slaps his chest back, it felt nice to have time like this.

Silence envolves the two of them except for the gentle music nature makes, and throughout the quietness, Lisa has a smile unconsciously aligning on her lips, her hand start to play with her younger brother's hair as she starts to hum their childhood song.
