Sang POV
He just... left.
I knew that me having a Fiance would be a shock to him, especially since I haven't seen him in years, but I never expected that reaction.
I was still in shock as I called Evan back.
"What the hell Sang?!" I flinched.
"I was working Evan, I got back into the room just as the call ended." I said, evading the truth. I know I can't lie, but I can sure as hedges avoid the truth. "I called you right back."
"Our deal was that if I call, you have to pick up. I told you what would happen if you didn't pick up." He growled.
I took a deep breath. "Evan, I am at work. What if I was in the middle of an emergency here and that's why I couldn't pick up? I told you I called you right back after I heard your ringtone turn off when I walked into the room."
He was dead silent. Moth balls, I might have pressed to hard.
"We will talk about this later." He said calmly. "I will see you at home."
Before I could tell him that I was working a double he hung up. Sigh.
----------
Five hours later and I was exhausted, both mentally and physically.
I didn't run into Owen during my rounds but I did check in on Luke who always had one of the other guys with him, mostly Gabe but the others popped up every now and then.
Evan hadn't called back again either, which surprised me. If I was working my normal shift i would have been home an a couple hours ago but one of the other nurses son, who is in the military, surprised her by coming home earlier from his tour then was expected so I told her to spend time with him.
Also, it gave me an excuse to avoid Evan for a while so there was that.
I knew that Evan was not always the nicest but at the same time he would show me glimpses of the sweet and kind man I first met all those years ago. We both have made mistakes and we both have gotten mad at each other, though he had the worst temper out of both of us.
My mind drifted back to our last argument, I couldn't remember what had set him off but I ended up with fractures ribs as a result.
I wish I could talk to someone, anyone really, but I have no idea who. I can't talk to Jade, Rocky, Greg, they are more Evan's friends and to be honest kind of scare me. I could talk to Evan's partner Jay, but Evan doesn't like it when we talk. Marie is out, she and Derick have their hands full with the baby, I can't put more stress on them. Phil wouldn't understand. Maybe Sean? No, he would tell Owen and I didn't want him to know, he would think Evan is like her but he isn't, with her I had to walk on eggshells, but I knew what triggered Evan and could avoid doing things that made him angry.
No, Owen wouldn't understand at all. He would see Evan as the bad guy when he really is a sweet guy when he wants to be. He wasn't the problem, I'm the one who messes up and makes him mad.
