Year 1908 - One year later

Alex POV

Dad got the day off and he wanted to have a day for just us. I asked if Miss Riza could join because I haven't seen her in so long. Dad laughed and said she could. He knew I thought of her as a mother figure.

So I called her, she had the day off as well and said she would love to join us. I cheered happily over the phone and told her to meet us at my place.

"Dad, Miss Riza's joining us!" I said jumping into his arms. "What do you want to do today?"

I was jumping about and giggling. "I'm going to get out of my pj's!"

I excitedly ran to my room and grabbed my clothing. I took out my pink overalls and white shirt. I had frilly white socks and put them on. "Can you help me with my hair dad?"

I asked as I held out an elastic. "Sure sweetheart, what would you like me to do with it?"

I sat in his lap after he grabbed my hairbrush. "A braid!"

He chuckled, "you are really excited for today, aren't you?" I nodded and let him do my hair.

Everything was quiet as he worked away. I fought hard not to snuggle into his chest. It felt really good when did my hair for me. "When you and Miss Riza cuddle, play with her hair. It feels nice." I murmured peacefully.

He stopped what he was doing for a minute. "What are you talking about Alexandra?"

"I know you love her," I giggle and turn slowly to look at his face. It was bright red. "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. But you should know. She loves you too."

I turned my head away again so that he could keep braiding. "Does she now?"

I nodded, "yup, who else would protect you so... so... I don't know the word."

He chuckled, "it's her job."

I shook my head no, "it's part of her job, but does that explain how well she knows you? How she keeps you on your toes and doing your work properly? Does that explain why she fought so hard not to get transferred that one day?"

He laughed, "okay, you win. I do love her. She is an amazing woman. And I would never be angry if you ever decided to call her mom."

"Then why don't you tell her?" I was curious. I was happy dad had a person to love, but he wouldn't tell her.

"We are both in the military. Military relationships are frowned upon," he said sadly. "The only way we could ever be together is if one of us left the military and we know that will not happen."
