I was taking hesitant steps towards my mother. She held her arms out and urged me on, while Orion placed his hands on my lower back. If I tilted too far back I knew he would catch me. I took one step, then two more, before I fell into my mother's waiting arms."Very good Aurora, you did so well." She said happily lifting me in the air. She smiled at Orion. "Thank you for the help Orion."
My brother was stone faced but there was a hint of a blush on his face. He seemed pleased.
Mother looked much healthier, and happier. Father was scheduled to return today and in the month since my Grandmother arrived she had brought my mother's health back. Her curves were coming back and she no longer looked like skin and bone. Sometimes my mother would have moments of despondency, but Grandmother's schedule waited for nothing.
We celebrated my accomplishment together when Theron arrived to take mother to training. I waved goodbye to my mother and Orion called Flora.
"She made a mess on herself during her meal. Please get her ready for father's arrival."
Flora curtsied before picking me up and taking me to the bathroom. Flora was usually very cute, she had large doe like eyes and a dainty nose that made her look like a doll. But today she looked a little ill.
She began to wipe me down with a warm wet cloth before clothing me in a fine soft blue dress. While she was buttoning me up she stopped suddenly and rushed to the toilet. She puked splendidly and I stared in worry.
"Fora" I said. The name Flora was a little beyond the abilities of my baby mouth.
"It's alright little miss." She said with a brave smile. "Just a little under the weather." She puked again and I brought the wet towel to her. Flora stroked my hair.
"My sweet little lady. So smart and kind. I hope my child is just as good as you."
I nodded and took her hand. "Fora goo." Any child of Flora would be adorable. But I don't think Flora was married.
Flora smiled and stood wiping herself off. She went back to buttoning my dress and fixing what little hair I had.
Flora carried me back down the stairs to the entrance way. My father was due back any minute, by portal. There are portals in the world, for those with wealth and political clout. I had not seen one in use before but I was excited. Not only to the fabulous display of magic, but to see my Papa.
"Thank you Flora" Celeste said as she took me from her arms. "Do you wish to take a break, you do not seem well."
"No my lady, I will stay to greet the Lord with the rest of the household."
"Very well, but I demand that you go to bed straight afterward."
Flora nodded and curtsied before standing with the rest of the staff.
Celeste looked excited and hummed happily. The runes on the floor began to light up and let out a delighted giggle. My father appeared in the center of the rune circle. He looked exhausted.
"Love!" Celeste greeted him happily and rushed into his arms. Father looked suprised and relieved. He held us close and motioned for Orion to join. We held each other as a family and parted after a time.
Draco held her face in his hands, "You are well?"
Celeste leaned into his touch, "I am myself again, I am so sorry I made you worry."
Draco shook his head, "I am sorry that I had to leave."
Celeste shook her head "You have your duty." She took a step back and smiled.
"I have a surprise for you. Orion, Aurora, and I worked hard on this."
Draco looked on with some curiosity as my mother placed me on the ground. I crouched with my hands on the ground and pushed myself up. I was a bit unsteady and Orion caught me before I could fall. I started to walk towards Draco, who seemed to be delighted. He knelt and held out his arms waiting with excitement as I walked towards him. I hugged him when I arrived.
"Papa."
He lifted me in the air and we laughed. I noticed that Flora was crying silently and she left the room. I hope she feels better.
Orion excitedly told Draco about his archery lessons with Theron and Celeste.
My grandmother stood to the side. She was staring at where Flora had dissapeared to with a sharp look. She looked at my father with a glare and he tensed up.
I felt somehow unsure of my family, then was distracted by the runes before I could ponder this further. The teleportation runes glowed on the ground.
"I forgot." Draco said with a guilty look.
"Draco." Celeste said with a warning tone.
Draco gave her an apologetic look. "It's very spur of the moment, but the king is visiting along with the prince and Queen."
Celeste glared at him. "Wonderful."
