Link watched as you lay on the solid rock platform, the fairies tending to your wounds. You looked angelic even when injured. How could this have happened? How...could he have let this happen?

The blonde swallowed the lump forming in his throat. He had promised himself he would protect you. From the moment you joined him on his journey. From the moment he knew you wouldn't leave his side, he had promised.

Now look at what happened. Was he sure he could protect you anymore? Or at all?

He mouthed a curse under his breath, choking back tears. He couldn't cry. Heroes don't cry. But you both had been through so much together....and to see you like this...all because of him...

Link was lost in sorrowful thought, not noticing that your eyes had cracked open already. You looked around, using only your eyeballs. Moving your head hurt too much. In fact, everything hurt to move. You hurt just by lying there. It was a good thing Link had, assumingly, brought you to Fairy Fountain.

All you remembered was fighting the enemy. You were a skilled fighter, but there were just too many. They had overwhelmed you. You blacked out from the amount of damage you took from those bastards. Your mind recalled that dreadful incident, and you whimpered subconsciously. This snapped Link out of his trance. His ocean blue eyes darted to your (e/c) ones as quick as an arrow, and he gasped at the sight of you awake. He immediately froze when your eyes locked with his. So did you. You both had so much to say. Link, how he wished to have his voice, so he could apologize profusely, even though measly "I'm sorry's" wouldn't be enough. To tell you he'd never lose sight of you again. That he'd try so much harder to keep you safe. And you, how you wanted to tell him that you really thought you were going to die at that very moment. How, that, if you did, you'd never see him again.

Link felt tears pricking the corner of his eyes, the lump in his throat starting to hurt. You had such a depressed look in your eyes, even though he saw you weakly smile. He knew you were trying to make him feel better. Well, that wasn't going to work, no matter if he appreciated it or not. He let this happen to you. This was his fault. He didn't deserve that smile. That beautiful smile.

Your breath hitched (Which hurt, by the way) at the sight of tears threatening to fall from Link's eyes. Never in your life had you seen Link like this. He was always so brave. At first notice, anyone would see Link as a fearless, indestructible Hylian. But no. Link has so much more to him. It never mattered if the Gods had chosen his fate as a hero, to save the innocent over and over. He was still an average Hylian. He had feelings, just like everyone else.

"L..." You tried your voice out, which you found out was hoarse and gravely sounding. But you didn't care, even if you could only mutter out words, at an almost inaudible volume.

"Li...nk..." Link's ears perked at the sound of his name. His hand flew to your limp one, and he squeezed it gently. He gave you a look that said, "Don't talk!" You smiled warily again, and let out a low chuckle. "It's...gonna be...alright..." You struggled breathing between words. Link's eyes hardened. Didn't he just tell you not to speak? You'll waste your energy telling him things he already knew!

But then his eyes softened when he saw the calmness in your eyes. He blinked. Had they always been that beautiful? Your voice though...it sounded so...damaged...no, all of you was damaged.

It was all his fault.

The young hero felt tears coming on again. But this time he couldn't stop them. They fell from his glassy blue eyes, and streamed down his cheeks. You look at your best friend with concern. You knew he couldn't help it. You could only imagine how you looked right now, damage wise. You let out a painful sigh. You'd do the same thing if you saw Link lying on the cold stone slab in pain, and not you. You'd do the same thing if you thought Link had died.

You gently squeezed Link's hand with as much strength as you could muster without wincing in pain. The male looked at you through a shield of golden hair that covered his face. He didn't squeeze back, but instead grabbed your shoulders. He made an attempt to pull you into a sitting position without hurting you. Of course, he did, but you didn't care as realization hit you.

He wanted to hug you.

You smiled understandingly. After a couple moments of slow movements, and grunts of pain, you were now sitting up, the fairies that were healing you letting out cries of protest, but you both didn't care at the moment. Link didn't hesitate for a second, and threw his arms around you, gently, of course, and buried his face into your shoulder. You smelled like blood. And dirt. And sweat. But somehow your body managed to keep your natural body scent through all of that grime and muck that clung to your clothes and body. It was a mix of lavender and vanilla. He loved that scent, even when it wasn't on you. But when it was, it just made you more intriguing to the hero.

He snapped out of his trance when you reached up slowly to run your fingers through his thick blonde hair. He then remembered what happened not to long before, and the tears came again.

You held him in your arms as the larger male sobbed softly into your shoulder, his arms tightening ever so slightly around your frame. You shushed him over and over, muttering comforting words into his ear. You did your best to calm his shaking body, but he just didn't seem to stop. You sighed, and simply smiled, resting your chin onto his own broad shoulder.

You let him cry. Everyone cries. Everyone needs to cry sometimes. You heard from your mother more times than your could count that bottling up your emotions for too long was bad for you. You guessed that this was Link's breaking point. Seeing you hurt in any way, shape, or form.

You'd be alright, anyway. You were healing faster now, and you felt better, even if just slightly. You absolutely knew that he blamed himself for this, and after you were done resting, you'd tell him that it wasn't.

However, you knew for a fact that Link wouldn't let you out of his sight for too long ever again. You became precious to him, and he'd do everything in his power to protect you.
You both couldn't imagine life without each other.
