Chapter 13
254 Days
2nd November 2021
As the hours slowly trickled by, the days seemed to merge together. I looked out the window while the rain cascaded down from the dismal grey sky, creating droplets on the glass. Mesmerised by rhythmic drumming of the rain, I didn’t notice Xavier materialise behind me. He placed a hand on my shoulder, startling me out of my meditative state. I turned to face him my hand flying to my rapidly beating heart,
“Xavier! Make a noise next time! Cough or something.” I gasped. He smirked and pushed his thick hair off his forehead.
Xavier was finally cured, a few days ago both Lisa and Xavier had fallen into a comatose state and yesterday Xavier woke up cured but Lisa remained unconscious.
“She’s waking up.” Xavier said smiling, I leapt away from the window and sprinted to her bed to see if it was true, and unbelievably it was. Lisa’s small body was stirring beneath the blankets.
“Hey Lis.” I said quietly, sweeping away her ebony hair away to reveal her pale face. She rubbed her eyes before sitting up and glancing around the room then back at me.
“Good God Nat, you look horrendous!” She exclaimed. I rolled my eyes and looked at Xavier who had switched into doctor mode and was checking her pulse. He then took a small torch from the table next to the bed and shone it into her eyes.
“What’s your name love?” He asked while illuminating her blue eye.
“Elisa Florence Malev.” She pronounced her full name with distaste. A small smirk played on Xavier’s lips as he shone the light into her green eye and I watched as her pupil recoiled.
“Do you know what year it is?”
“Two-thousand and twenty-one, last time I checked.” She yawned.
“Follow my finger with your eyes, do you know where we are?”
“Yeah, in a crappy motel. Are you done interrogating me?” Xavier ignored her.
“Do you know who I am?” He asked, while examining her face carefully.
“You are the jackass who knocked me up.” Xavier’s signature smirk spread across his face and turned to me.
“She’s absolutely fine.” He said and looked adoringly at Lisa, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
A few minutes later Alex walked through the door carrying a box of pizza. “I don’t think that’s going to be enough mate.” Xavier said wrapping his arm around Lisa, pulling her onto his lap. Alex’s eyebrows shot up in surprise to see Lisa awake; he dropped the pizza and ran to her to begin the medical check-up all over again.
“How long has she been awake?” He asked checking her pulse.
“Few minutes. Stop groping my girlfriend. You’re not the only one who went to medical school you know.” Alex stopped and began questioning Xavier. “Her pupils are reactive, her temperature had stabilised and she is fully aware of her surroundings with no memory loss.” Xavier answered seriously. It’s like being in an episode of Grey’s Anatomy, I thought to myself while walking over to the spot where Alex had thrown the pizza, picked up the box and quietly scoffed down the pizza while the boys played doctor with Lisa.

“No. Absolutely not.” Lisa and I both exclaimed at Alex’s ridiculous suggestion and my anxiety grew as Xavier’s smirk had disappeared from his face.
