Chapter 3
357 Days
23rd July 2021
A week has gone by and there is still no news of Alex's friend. Our photos finally appeared in the news a couple of days ago and of course they just had to use our yearbook photos. Lisa looks stunning as usual, but of course I was having a horrendous hair day and recovering from the flu so my nose matched the colour of my hair. Oh, did I mention that they're offering a reward for anyone who can find us, $700, I find that quite offensive, I am worth so much more than $700!
However with my new Barbie makeover the person in the photo looked like a stranger; the only person who was still recognisable was Lisa but she never left the motel without her remarkable disguises, however ever since the photos appeared in the news, leaving the motel was forbidden.
Personally I didn't mind being stuck here but, listening to Lisa's complaining was driving me up the wall, I even caught myself fantasising about tying her up in the bathroom and gagging her. The least favourite part of the house arrest is the living on Chinese take-out from the little restaurant next to the motel; I swear if I eat any more cashew chicken I will be sick. I almost begged on my knees to go and buy some pizza, but Alex says it’s too dangerous. The new diet is also killing Lisa; whereas I’m mostly bored, she is doing her Pilates almost three hours a day.
“I refuse to get fat!” She exclaimed when I asked why she was doing sit-ups. “Do you have any idea how much sodium is in that.” She exclaimed jerking her head towards her barely touch food and went back to her intense work out.
Yesterday Lisa reached the tenth month of the virus, so now she gets these odd twitches in her arms, her legs and even her face. Though I tried to reassure her that we still had plenty of time, it was alarming how rapidly time was passing, and the date that was printed on Lisa's arm drew nearer and nearer.
“Okay guys, I’m going for a shower. Try and behave this time.” She winked and walked off into the bathroom. I gave her my best evil glare and went back to poking at my dinner.
“So tell me about your friend, who is really taking his time to get here.” I said to Alex while attempting to keep down my chicken.
“His name is Xavier; he's English-”
“Well Lisa will be very happy.” I interrupted. He chuckled and scooted closer to me.
“He doesn't have very long either. He’s going to get hold of our fake passports and then he’ll come with us to Maryland.”
“Well can he hurry up? Because Lisa-“ Suddenly there was a loud bang from the bathroom, I leapt up at the sound of Lisa’s voice.
“SON OF A- OH CRAP!”
“Lisa, are you okay?” I asked from behind the door.
“Yeah I’m fine, damn twitches, I just dropped all the bottles! Go and carry on flirting with Dr English.” I sighed in relief and went to sit with Alex again.
“Lisa's getting worse, we really need to get going soon...”
“I know he should be here some time this week-“ He was interrupted by a knock on the door.
“Police department open the door please!” We looked at each other in horror. How did they find us? Lisa came running out of the shower with towel wrapped around her small body.
“Just a minute! I’m not decent!” She yelled. She ran to her Marry Poppin’s suitcase and pulled out a foil packet filled with green gloop. Then began rubbing it all over my face.
