Chapter 10
272 Days
15th October 2021
As of today, I have turned into a vampire because today can finally eat again and actually taste the food but, I like an idiot I forgot about my new symptom and out of enthusiasm I ran outside with Alex on my heels yelling at me to stop but it was too late because couple minutes later I walked back into the hotel with third degree burns. Well I'm exaggerating, I look like Rudolf the red nose reindeer but that's the worst of it, Xavier managed to yank me back into the hotel before there was any serious damage.
After the whole Christian incident Lisa seems to have some control over her panic attacks but sometimes she just couldn't control them, like yesterday for example, when we went to a free clinic so she could have an ultra-sound and all that other pregnancy stuff. She almost had a nervous break down in the waiting room so I had to smile at the worried patients and explain, "First time mother." Or "She hasn't told her mother yet." But this isn't our only problem. Lisa has exactly one week to live and we are somewhere in Missouri and there is no way we can drive to Maryland in time bearing in mind we also have to break into Fort Detrick and now we could only travel at night otherwise Alex and I would be modelling third degree burns. Xavier finally decided that we need to take a plane, as you can expect this didn't go down very well with me.
"Are you joking?" I said in disbelief, " You want us to go to an airport filled to the brim with security who are probably waiting for us?"
"There is no other way, at least this way we have a chance. Otherwise Lisa is going to run out of time." Xavier calmly tried to talk some sense into me. I paced around hotel room, scraping my fingers through my hair, trying to sort through my jumbled thoughts.
"Nat, he's right, we all want to get the cure for Lisa." Alex said while holding me by my shoulders, trying to stop my frantic pacing. I looked over at Lisa who was still asleep, oblivious to the troubled world she lived in. I took a deep breath and turned back to Xavier.
"Okay, how do you want to do this?"

After hours of arguing with Lisa, we had finally convinced her that flying to Maryland was the only way forward. At around lunchtime I sat tapping away at my laptop creating fake bank accounts under the names in fake passports and anonymously transferring money from Xavier's bank accounts into ours so if anyone became suspicious and decided to look us up, there would be some trace of our existence. I then bought the plane ticket with the fake accounts, hopefully making this plan foolproof. "The tickets are booked for nine p.m." I said without looking up from my screen. This way Alex and I could travel without being burnt to a crisp.
"Good, you're done. Come on I have to do your make-up." I looked up and was shocked to see Lisa looking like a complete stranger. She had somehow hollowed out her cheeks and thinned her nose almost completely changing the structure of her face. Her eyes, which were usually dark and smoky, had very minimal make-up on, making her eyes look dramatically bigger than usual. Combined with her black hair, she was practically a stranger.
When my second transformation was complete, I also looked like a complete stranger. My eyes were carefully lined to slightly alter the shape and I seemed to loose ten pound off my face and all just with the use of make-up, maybe this stuff was useful after all. The boys walked in the hotel room, their faces had also gone through the Lisa Malev alteration, Xavier even had scar running down his cheek.
"Alright, are the tickets booked?" Xavier asked.
"They're all from the fake accounts I made, and if they look deeper into it, I made all the money transfers look like they have come from random companies as a salary rather than your account and might I add, I have never seen so many zeros in my life." He smirked.
