Deejah's POV

"This guy does not even have manners to thank you for bailing him out" Mina said, while removing her veil and sitting down on sofa. Anger, dripping from her voice.

We had just returned from the prison, after bailing Yushraf out.

I pretended not to hear what she said, for she was already starting to irritate me with her annoying face.

"Mina, you must be surely out of your mind! Are you still expecting him to thank me, after what I did to him?"

"Yes, of course he deserves all he went through. Why will he, for any reason slap you, for the sake of his sister? If really I were in your shoes, I would have left him there for a month to learn his lesson. After all, we are rich enough to control the police. You know how they are always looking for a bribe and if you're loaded, you are free to control them, remember?" She asked, raising a brow, not feeling any sympathy towards the poor boy.

"Well, thank God you said if you were in my shoe, but unfortunately you are not, and mind you, we are different. Babe, I can't do that. By the way, even this four days you think was little, means a big deal of regret to me already. And do you know the worst part of it all, I made his sister my maid, all in the name of making him regret ever touching me.

"Please spare me with those trash you call regret! Why will you regret anything? It's not like they can do anything about it. Instead, they will only hate you and talk behind your back, which is not a big deal. Not like they can face you and say any trash." Mina said in derogatory manner.

"Oh! by the way, I should be expecting the guy to come in search of you very soon!" She exclaimed this time around.

"Search for me and do what exactly, Mina?" I asked, for she was trying to confuse me.

"Yeah, he should come and thank you for taking care of his sister, after all." Mina replied, rolling her eyes.

"Care? In what way did I take care of her? Tell me, because right now, you're making me confused. Please be straightforward, babe." I pleaded.

"Okay, fine! Remember you described the cage they slept in, for me. Is it in any way compared to even the maids' room? Talk more of the whole mansion she got to stay in, when she was your maid. She got to taste food, eaten by humans and most importantly, she did not have to hawk on the streets. Is that not care enough? Shouldn't he be forever thankful?" She asked, her gaze fixed in mine, seeking to know if she had been able to convince me, which she succeeded in doing.

"Yeah, that why I can't do without you in my life, babe. I never thought of it this way, until you made it clear to me. Thank you, babe. I love you. You are such a wonderful friend." I said, hugging her.

"Hey! I can't breath." I screamed amidst laughter.

"Idiot, shut up! I want to sleep. Let's go to your room." I said and began to drag her upstairs to her room.

I was already dozing off in Mina's bed, when suddenly, her phone interrupted my sleep. She came out of the bathroom with pink towel round her body and picked up the phone, then began to smile sheepishly. Without a doubt, I knew it must be the new boyfriend she talked about this morning.

After she was done talking on phone, she told me the guy was already on his way and she needed to dress up quickly. With that, she went to her closet and changed into a beautiful golden colored gown, designed with a touch of black.

She sat down in front of mirror and perfectly did her make up. Her phone started to vibrate again. This time, she did not pick, concluding he was already waiting outside.

"Deejah, why not wait for me so that you can get enough sleep, since you were enjoying your sleep, before you were interrupted." Mina remarked, while checking her face on mirror.

"I'd love too, Mina, but remember mum is coming back today and I have to pick her up from the airport by 6pm and this is already past 4pm and again you know I have to check round the whole house to check if everything is already perfect, because you know mum will not blame the maid. Instead, she will put the whole blame on me. So I have to go, babe."

"Yeah, it's true. I almost forgot mum is coming back today. I wish her safe flight."

"Aameen ameen. Thank you. So, let's get going." We left the room and descended down the stairs.

We got outside the mansion and saw Shafiu, leaning on his Lexus jeep, tapping his feet on the floor, his eyes glued to the screen of his phone.

Immediately we approached him, he raised his head, a smile plastered on his face, flashing his open teeth. He looked really happy to see his girlfriend for the first time.

He greeted us and Mina introduced me to him as her best friend, and we exchanged pleasantries, but the way he kept staring at me was making me feel uncomfortable, so I announced my leave.

"Mina, I have to excuse you guys and get going." I stated and in return, she glared at me like I had grown two heads.

"Deejah, you are not going anywhere. Who is chasing you? huh! I mean we haven't spent up to five minute here and you want to leave already?" Mina was starting to get angry. I heaved a sigh - that moment when you're stuck with a friend that gets angry easily.

"No, babe, I'm sorry, it's not like that. It's just that I don't want to be a nuisance to you guys and spoil the fun. And besides, you both are just meeting for the first time. I mean you both have a lot to talk about." I explained, hoping she would get my point, but Shafiu wanted to force me also, which I declined. I had already made up my mind and nothing could change it.

"Okay, since you insist you want to leave, can you get inside the car? We will drop you off." Shafiu stated, but Mina told him he should not worry and that I had my own car also at the park. With that, I thanked him and hugged Mina, before walking to my car.

*****
I was checking every corner of the house to make sure everything was in order, before mum would arrive home.

At the moment, I was done inspecting everywhere and was just waiting for mum's call, so I could go and pick her up. I had promise her I would be the one to pick her from the airport myself, not the driver.

My phone vibrated for a second and I checked, only to see Sheriff's text me message.

Hey, babe, can you come over to my house right now? I miss you.

I sighed and hesitated for a moment, before replying.

I'm sorry, dear, but I can't. I'm busy. I hope you understand. I miss you too.

I hope all was well, for he had never invited me to his house before. He only invited me to parties or a date, but never his house. I knew he was the only one that stayed in the house, probably, because his parents based in Abuja and only visited Kano occasionally.

For some inexplicable reason, his message had me worried. I wondered if he was okay or not. I contemplated on disappointing mum or sheriff? Oh God! I was just confused to think of a solution.

After pacing to and fro, I finally decided to go pick mum up and then explain to sheriff when I get to school tomorrow.

I sat down on the long seat and waited for mum's call. A message popped in again. I clicked on it and got the most shocking message from Sheriff. This time, starring at it tore me apart. I could not even blink my eyes, due to the heaviness.

Busy? Did you just hear yourself? You are too busy that you don't even care about your boyfriend... You know what, you are just a selfish human being and a spoiled brat. To hell with you and whatever is making you busy! And let me warn you, don't even try to show your face to me anymore.

Tears began to flow down my cheeks. I couldn't control my emotions anymore. I dried up my tears with my palm and lazily stood up, with my phone in hand. I walked inside and quickly had shower, then changed into a different outfit.

When my phone vibrated, I thought it was Sheriff calling to apologize and to tell me the message was mistake, but I just ended up getting my hopes up. It was mum, calling. I picked it up and told her I would be at the airport soon.
