Sharppaw awoke to the sound of a cat calling his name. He blinked open his eyes, which were clouded.
"Sharppaw?!"
Sharppaw could see clearly now. The gray tabby figure of Stormpaw loomed over him. He glanced at the she-cat. Sharppaw got to his paws and shook the mud from his pelt. Stormpaw flinched as dirt sprayed her.
"Come on! We need to get out of here. I dragged you from the ditch and to a tree hollow," Stormpaw exlained. Her beautiful green eyes were locked onto Sharppaw. "I heard voices close by. It must be a patrol that came to find us," She added.
"Are you sure?" Sharppaw rasped. His heart still ached because of Snowbreeze. Well, if he doesn't want to be my father, then I'll show him. Sharppaw tasted the air. It smelled like a strange scent, like rogue. He bristled. Sharppaw pulled Stormpaw into the hollow with him and pushed her against the wall. "Be quiet. Roges."
Stormpaw bristled and Sharppaw could smell fear scent coming from her. He pricked his ears forward as he heard leaves crunching and voices.
Two rogues appeared outside the hollow. One of the rogues was a dark gray tom that had emerald-green eyes and a silver muzzle and chest. The second rogue was a dark ginger she-cat with amber eyes, gray splotches, and white paws. They were a few paw-lengths within the border, their eyes looking around.
"I think this is Clan territory. Petal said it had a strong scent," the ginger she-cat mewed, her tail flicking. She looked at the dark gray tom, who was slightly larger than her. "Do you really believe that we'll find Wolffang here?" She asked, her gaze flashing with worry.
"If we find him here, we can go back to Petal and tell her. If we don't find our father here, we can keep looking," The dark gray tom meowed. "Come on."
Sharppaw growled. Those rogues were going to invade the camp! If I catch them and bring them to camp, Snowbreeze will be proud! Sharppaw yowled loudly and darted from the hollow. He bristled and lifted his tail, unsheathing his claws and snarling. "Get out of ThunderClan territory, you filthy rogues!" He hissed.
The dark gray tom was bigger than Sharppaw. "ThunderClan?" He echoed. His voice sounded calm. "We were wondering-"
Sharppaw leaped on the tom and latched onto his back.
Stormpaw pushed out of the hollow. "Sharppaw! Stop!" She yowled.
Sharppaw was shook off of the dark gray tom. He landed on the ground beside Stormpaw, panting. He pushed himself to his paws and glanced at his friend. "Why? They're going to invade camp!"
"Let's hear what they have to say first," Stormpaw meowed, a faint growl in her voice. She blinked warmly at the rogues and lifted her tail. "Who are you?"
The dark gray tom blinked warmly at her. "My name is Mistfang, and this is my sister, Cherryflight," He meowed, pointing to the ginger she-cat.
"Hi," Cherryflight meowed, glancing at Stormpaw.
Sharppaw sat down, licking his dusty chest fur. "I'm sorry for attacking you. You sound like Clan cats. I mistaked you for rogues," He murmured.
Mistfang lifted his tail and padded closer to Sharppaw. "It's ok, we all make mistakes. But we are not Clan cats, we are rogues. We were sent by our mother to find our father. Our mother, Petal, told us that we would probably find him here. Do you know Wolffang?" He asked.
Sharppaw froze. He'd heard of Wolffang. He was Ashstar's son. Even though Wolffang had been Jaywing's brother, she had never talked much about him. "Wolffang was not around when I was born. But my kin told me that he left ThunderClan as an apprentice. I heard that he was very rude and evil. But he never returned to ThunderClan. In fact, nobody knows where he is. I didn't even know that he had kits," Sharppaw explained.
