Sharpkit skipped away from his brother Lightkit. "Catch me, Lightkit!" He called. He skipped over the moss, yelping excitedly.

Frostkit was crouched in the corner of the nursery, her yellow eyes narrowed. "Come on, Sharpkit, Lightkit, stop playing kit-games. Why don't we do something other than chasing each other?" She hissed.

Sharpkit stopped dead in his tracks, Lightkit tumbling into his side. "Frostkit, we're still kits," He grumbled.

"Well then, grow up," Frostkit hissed, getting to her paws.

"Just ignore her," Lightkit sighed. He swished his small tail. "We can keep playing if you want," He prompted.

Frostkit turned. "Oh, I know what we could play," She mewed, lifting her chin.

"What? I was talking to Sharpkit," Lightkit challenged.

Frostkit leaped on Sharpkit, her tiny, yet sharp claws unsheathed.

"Ow! Hey!" Sharpkit hissed, trying to shove her off. He remembered a move his father had taught him the day before when he visited them. He scrambled in the moss, pushing his hind paws into Frostkit's stomach with all the energy he had.

Frostkit leaped off of him, not even effected by Sharpkit's shove. "Huh, weak kit," She grumbled. "You take up after you stupid little brother. But at least he's got more sense than you."

"Oh really?" Sharpkit challenged. She- she's wrong!  Sharpkit felt anger surge through him. He unsheathed his claws, then leaped through the air. Frostkit bunched her muscles, getting ready to dodge his attack, but Sharpkit twisted the other way, his claws slicing in a circle and hitting Frostkit's cheek.

"Ok, that's it!" Frostkit whimpered. She bunched her muscles to leap, but a white cat was rushing over to them.

"Sharpkit!" Teeth dug into his scruff. "Don't hurt your sister like that!" Snowbreeze hissed, his eyes burning with anger.

Sharpkit scrabbled away from his father's teeth. "She hurt me first!" He hissed.

"I don't want to hear it," Snowbreeze sighed. He looked from Frostkit to Sharpkit. "Go to the medicine den and get yourselves cleaned up," He grumbled. He left the den, his white tail swishing.

Sharpkit flattened his ears and leaped from the den, heading over to the nursery, Frostkit slowly following behind, her usual smirk changing to disgust. One day, she will pay for what she's done.

Sharpkit pounced on Jaywing's tail, his own tiny tail lashing in triumph. "Got it!" He mewled.

Jaywing circled happily around him, her eyes shining. "Good job!" She congratulated him. "You're fast on your feet."

"Thanks," Sharpkit mewed. "Can we go get something to eat?" He asked. He could feel his stomach rumbling.

"I know your favorite prey, so I'll get it and you find a spot to sit in," Jaywing meowed, padding away to the fresh-kill pile, her gray tabby tail swishing behind her.

Sharpkit saw a shaded spot by the apprentices' den. He knew that they were both training with their mentors. He picked his way across camp, his tail in the air, then reached his spot. He circled the ground before patting down his paws and sitting down.

Jaywing soon came over, two mice in her jaws. She smiled as she neared Sharpkit, then sat down the food before laying down beside Sharpkit and grabbing her meal in her paws. She seemed to move slowly.

Sharpkit started to bite into the side of the mouse. He spat out the fur in his mouth and bit deeper into the mouse, tasting the meat. He licked his lips as the rice flavor washed his mouth. But he noticed that Jaywing wasn't eating. Instead, she was looking off to the side, her eyes fixed on  Palewhisker sharing a robin with Breezestorm. They seemed happy.

"What's wrong Jaywing?" Sharpkit asked.

"W-what? Nothing," Jaywing mumbled. She curled her tail around her paws. "I'm... worried for Palewhisker," She admitted after a moment of silence.

"Well... aren't you happy for your sister?" Sharpkit asked.

"I... I am I guess. It's just that I'm scared I'll lose another cat I love," She murmured. "I lost my mother and kit in the same battle with those dumb rogues. They've taken everything from us. I even lost my father to them. I'm scared I'll lose more of my family," She was shaking.

Sharpkit scooted closer to her, feeling her warmth on his side. "Don't worry. Your sister will be fine, I know she's a tough cat," He mewed. "Hey, why don't you eat your mouse? Maybe that will make you feel better?" He prompted.

"I've.. um got a patrol to be on," Jaywing said quickly. She got to her paws and padded away towards the camp entrance, her tail dragging in the dirt.

Sharpkit glanced at his paws.

"What's wrong Whimperkit? Did you lose a friend?" A taunting voice came from behind Sharpkit. Frostkit padded from the leaves, a paw covering her smile, her laugh muffled.

Sharpkit bristled and raced towards the camp entrance. Ivypool didn't see him. Sharpkit raced into the forest. I've got to find Jaywing! He felt like the size of an ant in this forest. Everything was bigger than him. The trees stretched so tall they seemed to be touching the clouds. Shadows covered the path ahead of Sharpkit as he raced through the forest. His paws skidded over dirt and he tripped, rolling over the dirt and landing in a patch of bramble.

Sharpkit cried in pain and kept jumping, his fur sticking to the brambles. The sharp thorns were stained with his blood now as he rolled in the spiky trap, then he fell through a hole and rolled into a ditch, landing in dirty water. The forest seemed even scarier than it had now as Sharpkit felt dizzy. He lay in the puddle of water, letting it soak his fur. Sharpkit scrabbled to his paws as he heard growling above the ditch. He scrambled up the side, feeling dirt rub roughly against his pads and cling to his fur. He finally scrambled out, then fully regretted it.
