Aldean's POV
It's been three days since Damien and I had had that conversation.
He was always stubborn-headed whenever we spoke about it. He'd told me the past was in the past and I should move on.Damien had been trying to matchmake me with some girls in New York but I just couldn't see past their heavy makeup, sweet mouth and their overall ingenuity.
I was doing my best to move on and now that I was in Africa, it seemed I healed even faster.
The meeting at Skyview hospital was at 10am and I had to be there at least 15 minutes before the time. Dylan and I had prepared everything we'd need last night, so we didn't have to hurry about anything this morning.
He got here on Saturday evening and had surprised me with a big hug, something he'd never done in the three years of being in my employment.
He settled right in and made himself home. It was a relief to have him back as I didn't have to do all the work myself anymore and he looked very healthy again. Color had returned to his face once more.
I met Dylan at the hallway, possibly coming to call me, when I was heading down to have breakfast. I told him to tell the driver to prepare the car as we would be leaving immediately after breakfast.
He phoned the driver that we'd be down in 20 minutes.
I'd told the cook not to bother herself with my meals that I'd take care of them. Although she had looked saddened by what I said, I couldn't have what she cooked, even after I tried. At least, Damien and Dylan were okay with the food.I quickly made made myself toasts and made coffee. Dylan poured himself a glass of milk and ate fruits. I sat down on the stool near the counter and reviewed the contract the hospital and our company had agreed on.
After the meeting today, we would finalize on what we had been discussing for the past few months.
This project is very important to dad as his great aunt had died from blood cancer. Before we left for the car, the cook came into the dining room and greeted us.
"How are you doing today?" I asked.
"I'm fine sir, thank you". She responded.
"Have you seen Damien today?" I asked her as I stood up to leave.
"Yes sir. He left before sunrise, he told me not to wake you and he said he'd call you by noon". She replied.
"Thank you". I told her and walked out of the house to the car.
The hospital was much bigger than I had expected. It boasts of thirteen stories with the name SKYVIEW HOSPITAL boldly written atop of it.
There were people standing outside the entrance door with their identity cards hung around their necks.
I got off the car, with my suitcase in hand, and walked towards them, with Dylan walking behind me.
It was until I got closer I noticed Miss Williams was among the associates, although she wasn't looking at my direction. That almost hurt as she was the only one who knew me but she didn't seem to pay me any attention.
"Good morning Mr Schmidt. I am Sanmi Oluwole, the acting Director of Skyview hospital, this is Mr Tomiwa, he is the Director of the Medical laboratory," he said pointing to the man standing next to him. "Over there is Mrs Okafor, the chief medical laboratory scientist and beside her is...." 'Lola'
I echoed in my mind. ..... "Miss Williams"."I believe you have met with Miss Williams already?" The director asked.
"Of course". I replied.
"And who is the gentleman with you sir?"
"This is Dylan Cook my secretary, he'll be with me through out this period".
He nodded. "Nice to make your acquaintance", he said to Dylan. "This way please" he gestured towards into tall building.
All the while during the introductions, I wondered why Miss Williams didn't say a word. She didn't look as lively as she had been when we met last week. I didn't let that bother me and just proceeded as I was directed.
After getting off the elevator at the 8th floor we were ushered into a large boardroom, quite as big as the boardroom at our New York office.
I got seated towards the head of the table and was handed a printout of the program of the meeting that was about to proceed.
While I was going through them, a bulky man in a three piece suit with some other people entered the room.
Everyone apart from Dylan and I stood up. Immediately, we stood up with them. I immediately guessed he was the Chairman of Skyview.
He came towards the head of the table with only one man following behind him. He stopped beside me and spoke in a deep baritone voice.
"You must be Aldean Schmidt. I am Justice Oseahumen, the Chairman of Skyview hospital. He said shaking my hand sharply.
"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance Mr Justice". I replied addressing him with his first name as I couldn't quite pronounce his surname.
"Do have your seat. The meeting will commence in a few minutes".
Just then, Miss Williams walked into the room. I could hear her heels squeaking against the tiled floor as she made turns in dropping documents in front of all the seated persons.
Her hair was styled in a tight bun, no loose curls out of place today. When she reached my side of the table, avoided my eyes when I looked at her. I guessed she must have felt really embarrassed about the towel incident.
That made me chuckle a little. When she dropped the spiral bounded document in front of me, I got of whiff of her scent.
She smelled like fresh flowers that had just been picked and there was this scent that I couldn't quite place my hands on, the scent was in between jasmine and one of the recently released Chanel perfumes I had scented recently at the launch party in California.
She immediately withdrew from my side and dropped the last document at the Chairman's front with a short curtsy.
I wondered why she was handling the task of sharing these documents and why she looked nervous.
I opened the spiral bound document in front of me and read;
"Early Diagnosis of Blood Cancers Using Routine Techniques by Lola Williams"
Immediately my eyes flew up to her to meet her staring at me. Our eyes met and held for the first time today.
