The silence, nothing quite as deafening not even from deep within the bowels of the empty had he experienced something so deadly to himself, so questioning of his loyalty than the few words that fell from Nick's lips.

"Is it true?."

Lucifer knew he couldn't keep it from Nick forever, couldn't lie, but there was a part of him that hoped he could. He wished he wouldn't have brought it up this soon either. Ten years they've been tethered, ten short years and not once was he questioned until now.

He was barely back, narrowly escaping the empty. He couldn't lose everything now.

He had assumed he'd be back, they'd be together again. They'd continue what he started but not with Abraxas spilling the beans so to speak, with everything regarding Sarah, the fear in Nick's eyes. Nick just had to give in to his human nature, the uncertainty.

He could see it splayed so openly in his eyes, threatening to spill. He could almost taste the betrayal Nick felt, not unlike the betrayal he had felt right before his own fall, all he needed was the confession before he shut down completely.

He was the creator of that pain Nick pay he'd onto but he had vowed to never let any harm come to the human, still he stood before him with the words that would wreck him completely.

"I know what you need me to say." Lucifer stated with a tone less intrusive than he normally has, it was softer and ashamed, a feeling he had no recollection of ever feeling and suffice to say, he did not like it. He sighed softly. "It was done on my order, yes."

Nick's eyes unfocused for a moment. All the days, all the conversations, all this time it had been him. He had trusted him completely when he was the architect of his misery. All this time he was aiding the one who caused this ache in his soul. The foundation on which his love and trust was built was nothing more than an ocean he now drowned.

"Why wou-" he sputtered and his teeth clenched as he locked eyes with Lucifer. "How?" His voice cut harshly into Lucifer, never had he been on the receiving end of the rage. "What could you possibly hope to gain from-" Nick clenched his eyes as the images which he had buried came rushing back again.

The situation stung more than any weapon could ever. The only person that still looked up to him, referred to him as an angel, and now he was looking at him like everyone else. Fear and accusation filled that ice blue, the depths in his eyes frozen over as he built the wall between Lucifer and himself from the betrayal he felt.

"You." Lucifer stated simply as if that would e plain everything, he took a step forward but stopped in his tracks when Nick responded defensively by taking a step back. "Back when I was looking for a vessel, when we first met. Nick you weren't just some human I happen to stumble upon at the first place I checked. I chose you."

Lucifer knew that wasn't something Nick was going to take well, being the reason for his wife and son's death but Nick needed to be untethered by what held him tranquil. He needed Nick to fulfill his part.

"I told you, Nick. You are special, you always have been. We were mean to be bonded."

"No." Nick shook his head as tears started to roll slowly and silently over his cheek. "You killed them, you broke me. You made a promise, you knew." Nick's voice rose with ever word. This wasnt love, this was manipulation from the start and then Nick grew quiet, voice low as he looked down, hands clenched. "You never cared, everyone was right. I should've listened when Sam tried to explain."

"Nick, please don't do this. You'll regret it." Lucifer said and for the first time he could physically feel his vessel's heart pound against its chest.

On a purely technical standpoint he did not need Nick anymore, he had a body that could hold his form but it wasn't the same, it was empty without Nick and furthermore it felt cold and alone knowing Nick would never return to him again.

"The only thing I regret is not noticing it sooner." Nick stated as he looked into Lucifer's eyes. "I'm done being manipulated and used by you and hell and the Winchester's. You all can go to hell."

Nick turned his back on Lucifer, hands pressing on the counter as his heart pushed further into his throat, knowing full well Lucifer could push for what he wanted, force him, kill him but he didn't care he had lost everything else, at least this was something he had some say in.

Lucifer looked at Nick for a moment, his sweet Nick. There was nothing he could say to change his mind at the moment, he knew that. Nick had built is current self around the death of his family and would not let up.

In a blink, Lucifer flew away to hell, the only place he had some hold still. The only farewell to Nick was the gush of wind letting Nick know he was now completely and utterly alone.
