ZAYN & NIALL

When Niall's door rang, he didn't expect anyone in particular.

He was sitting on his couch, playing his guitar. He had written a lot of songs the past few weeks. It had helped him to get all these feelings off his chest. And he felt better. At least somewhat. His heart didn't hurt every time he heard Zayn's name anymore. But sometimes it still hurt when he laid alone in bed.

For the first time in the last few months, he had done something for himself. He had chosen himself over anyone else. And as hard as it had been—it helped. Although, especially the first week after the incident, had been hard and confusing—Niall managed to stop crying.

Sighing, he walked over to the door and when he opened it, his heart skipped a beat.

Standing in front of him, was Zayn. Zayn who had never in his life been this nervous before. He thought his heart was going to jump out of his chest. It was unexplainable seeing Niall again. He was so incredibly beautiful.

Niall froze. No. This was not happening again.

"Hey," Zayn said, forcing himself to smile. Because the way Niall looked at him, was anything he had imagined.

Niall looked onto the ground. "What are you doing here?" Was he here to mess with his head? Because if so, he wouldn't give in to him again. Enough was enough.

"Please, let me explain," Zayn pleaded. He was desperate at this point. He wanted to tell Niall everything. "Can I come in?"

There was a part in Niall that wanted to know. He wanted to hear his side of things. On the other hand, he wanted to kick him out of his apartment right there. Unfortunately, the bigger part in him, moved to the side, letting Zayn walk in.

There was relief falling from Zayn's shoulders. He couldn't believe Niall would let him in. And, honestly, he wouldn't have blamed him after all that he had done. With quick steps, he walked into the living room. Niall followed him.

They stood there in front of the couch until Niall nodded towards it and sat down. Zayn did the same. With a heavy heart, Zayn realised Niall sat down quite further away from him. He wasn't looking at him.

Niall was focused on not looking at Zayn. He didn't want to. Alright, that may or may not have been a lie.

"You deserve the truth after all that I have put you through," Zayn started. He was scratching the back of his head. How should he put this? Where should he even start?

Niall shrugged. Listening to Zayn was becoming harder by the second. He wanted so bad to be unfazed by his presence.

Zayn took in a deep breath before continuing. It was now or never. "Ever since you told me you loved me, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I—I couldn't stop thinking about you."

Niall hissed in air. He wanted to scream. He regretted ever telling him that. Everything went downhill from there. He had accepted it at this point, but that didn't mean that he was ready to talk about it. Especially not with Zayn.

Zayn was facing Niall with his upper body. He was putting his full attention on every single one of his expressions. But Niall looked completely blank. He looked like someone had taken a part of him and had ripped it into pieces. Zayn thought, that most likely had been the truth.

He gulped before speaking again. "Never before had I assumed that you could have feelings for me. I mean—we were best friends."

Niall furrowed his brows. And that was his excuse to treat him like trash?
