The lights flashed back on and the door opened widely while the cloth flew up, revealing Sherlock looking at me with full solicitude. I'm left staring dumbfounded at him where the hound stood milliseconds before.
"Jane? Are you all right?" he asked me, voice filled with concern. He took a step into the cage and placed a hand on my knee.
In a full irrational state, I stormed out of the cage and out to the lab. "Jesus Christ, it was the hound!" I exclaimed, grasping my scalp and on the verge of tears. I tucked my phone away. "It was here, Sherlock. I swear it, Sherlock- it was here, Sherlock, it must have- it must-" I frantically looked around the lab while Sherlock gazed at me in a fully calm glare. "Did you see the damn thing? You must have!"
"It's all right, it's okay now," Sherlock crooned.
I stopped pacing around agitatedly to look at Sherlock. I stared at him like he had two heads as I tried gathering my thoughts.
"Okay?" I croaked out. I swallowed. "You thought that this was all okay?" I looked around and gestured to the lab. "You thought that me waiting for my inevitable death and you saved me at the last second was okay? because I'll tell what is okay!" I started taking off my earrings and bracelet before winding up to jump at Sherlock before he grabbed my shoulders and kept me at a reasonable distance.
"Jane, be rational about all of this. I said this already; it's all going to be okay-" he consoled me.
"NO, IT'S NOT!" I blurted as I threw my hands in the air, spit flying everywhere. "I saw it, and I was wrong!" Sherlock's poker face hasn't changed as he watched my meltdown.
"Well, let's not jump to conclusions," he muttered.
"What?" I demanded.
"What did you see?"
"I told you, I saw the hound," I answered.
"Huge? Red eyes?"
"Yes and yes."
"Glowing?"
"Yeah."
"No."
"What?" before I had the chance to take my shoes off and throw them at him with no rational thought, he grabbed both of my wrists.
"I made up the bit about glowing," he said, slowly putting my hands down. "You saw what you expected to see because I told you. You have been drugged- we've all been drugged," he explained.
"Drugged?" I said in disbelief.
"Can you walk?" he asked me.
"Of course I can walk," I answered in an "obviously" tone.
"Come on then. It's time to lay this ghost," he stated. I followed him into Stapleton's lab while she busily examined a rabbit on a metal table.
"Oh, back again? What's on your mind this time?" she said as we walked in.
"Murder, Doctor Stapleton; typical Friday night for us," I answered sarcastically.
"Refined, cold-blooded murder," Sherlock added. He turned the lights off in the room, revealing the bunny to glow in the dark.
As Sherlock flipped the lights back on, I said, "So who's gonna break the news to little Kirsty? Would you do it, or shall we?" I flashed her a smile, satisfied at Stapleton's ashamed stare.
"What do you want?" she asked.
"Can I borrow your microscope?" Sherlock asked.
