2018 - cont'd
The first time Penny Peabody ever laid eyes on Violet Green, it was like seeing an ancient ghost appear before her.
She watched on as the burly young Ghoulies dragged the unconscious woman into their den and strapped her to a chair, before showering her down with frigid water from a bar hose. After a few moments, the woman began to stir and sputtered the pools of water away from her lips.
Penny observed closely as the woman leaned forward in her chair and gasped to breathe fully. The process, in her opinion, was taking too long. Her thin patience was wearing thinner. Without hesitation, Penny lunged forward and grabbed a fistful of purple coloured locks and yanked them back to fully reveal the prisoners face.
So it was true.
After so many years, Penny just couldn't believe it.
Even as her light coloured eyes peered into the prisoners dark ones, and the two women took in the slow realization of recognizing one another, Penny Peabody was still struggling to come to terms with what this actually meant. For her. For the Ghoulies. For the Serpents.
Hell, for all of Riverdale.
Penny glanced the prisoner over with eagle-sharp eyes. She didn't want to miss a damn thing. There was a lot of ground to cover in a short amount of time. As much as Penny wanted to keep this momentous discovery to herself, the realist in her didn't actually expect to pull it off. Penny quickly noted that the other woman was fairly fit, surprisingly so. The soft curves of her adolescence had simmered down and had been built upon with hard, toned muscle. Several tattoos claimed various sections of smooth exposed skin, and a multitude of piercings now covered the woman's ears and face.
Her olive skin seemed even darker, and had developed new smatterings of freckles throughout. Penny realized that her prisoner must have grown comfortable in her disguise over the years and gone on to enjoy a considerable amount of free time outdoors. She snickered to herself - that was surely something of the past now, wasn't it?
Clearly, the prisoner had made good use of her time away. It seemed she had lived every minute of her borrowed time to the fullest, Penny realized with a tinge of bitterness. It had been over a decade since the other woman had last stepped foot in Riverdale, and a lot of things had happened. A lot of things had changed. Most of it, not for the better either. Penny found she couldn't wait to be the one to tell her, right after she was informed of her husbands recent passing.
Penny nodded over to the other Ghoulies standing guard at the entrance, dismissing them from their post. They were quick to accept her direction and with a click, the door soon shut behind them. She circled around the other woman, running her free hand across the woman's face, then her exposed neck, before trailing slowly across her back.
She stopped her hand just short of the other woman's right shoulder blade. She first rubbed gentle circles in the one spot before her sharp nails and finger points began pressing increasingly harder down into the woman's flesh, right through her thin tank top.
"That's the spot isn't it? I remember it like it was yesterday. That's the spot where I got you with my knife. When you were running for the hills like the pathetic bitch that you are."
The woman flinched and tried to pull away from Penny's touch, without much success. She looked up at her captor but refused to respond. She merely closed her eyes and gritted her teeth together before lowering her head to stare once more at the ground.
"You weren't supposed to get away, you know. That was the one thing we were supposed to make sure of. Money, merchandise, and witnesses be damned. That's why there were so many of us against little-ole-you. The fact that we failed is why none of us were ever able to move up in rank after that. Your bullshit stubbornness cost us all of our careers." Penny stood at the prisoners side and leaned over to angrily whisper directly into the other woman's ear. She waited for several reactions, only to get none. Penny stood up, and tapped her long fingers against the prisoners shoulders.
"Do you recognize where we are, hmm? I know it's been a hot minute since you've been down here but still, I think you should be able to figure it out." Penny leaned back and gestured with her arms sweeping out to the space surrounding them.
The prisoner lifted her head again and looked around. She still refused to speak aloud to her captor, but Penny could see it in her eyes. In her changing facial expressions as it dawned on her.
"Yes, that's right. Precious little storm. We're at the Wyrm! Well, what's left of it anyway...and it's not exactly the Wyrm anymore...it's Ghoulie territory now. Most of the Southside is these days." Penny watched on in delight as the details registered on the other woman's face.
"Oh relax, the Serpent's are okay. Well, what's left of them anyway. I don't really keep up with them anymore, as I'm sure you've probably noticed by now." Unable to stifle a laugh, Penny gestured to her scarred wrist before her own tank top clad torso with glee as the other woman's eyes widened with shock and then narrowed in anger.
"That's not all, Toots. That hubby of yours? The geezer from Centerville? Yeah, I'm sorry to say but he didn't make it, Hun...pffft who am I kidding?! I'm not sorry!" Penny circled around the prisoner again while chuckling to herself.
With a sudden banging at the entrance, Penny and the prisoner both craned their necks to follow the noise. The door flew open and the Ghoulies previously on guard informed Penny that she was running late for her next meeting.
Penny stood in front of the prisoner and pulled fistfuls of purple hair back once more. She forcefully stood between the other woman's legs and leaned down to stare directly into the big, dark eyes she'd always resented.
"Well darn, looks like we're gonna have to finish this another time. That's okay though, I know you'll wait for me!" Penny smirked as she yanked the fistfuls of hair rigorously from side to side before releasing them to fall forward again.
As she reached the entrance and was about to step through the door, Penny looked back towards the prisoner and tilted her face forward with a sly grin and one raised brow.
"Hey, before I go. I didn't get to tell you the best part. You see, after you left, they made FP King." At hearing that, the prisoner's head shot up and the other woman opened her mouth before abruptly closing it again and pursing her lips.
"No wait, it gets better. You see, FP was an alright leader. For a while there, he really made a go of it. Put his all in and whatnot. Blah, Blah, Blah...until he retired this year." Penny's eyebrows wiggled with glee as she held on to what was left of her supposed cliffhanger.
"And guess. Who was just sworn in. To take his place. Hmm? I'll give you a moment, just go ahead and guess!" The prisoner took a deep breath and would only stare back at Penny with dead eyes.
"Alright, I'll just tell you! It was Jughead!" Penny widened her eyes at the other woman, and covered her lips with one hand dramatically.
"What!..." Penny could barely make out the prisoners outburst over her own laughter, but both women still heard it nonetheless.
The other woman's face began to pale and her dark eyes became large and glassy, with unshed tears threatening to spill. Penny remembered this about her from years before. She knew she on the verge of having her prisoner right where she wanted her.
"You heard me. It's true. Baby Boy Jones is now their proud Serpent King, and he loves it."
Penny watched as the prisoner slumped over in her chair and began to take slow, deep breaths. Penny, now content with her progress, knew without a doubt that she had got to her.
"And with that, I have to run..." Stepping through the entrance, Penny began to close the door behind her. Her last words carried through the gap, over to the isolated prisoner, just before the door finally clicked shut.
"Welcome back to Riverdale, Nerys. I think you'll find that nothing is how you left it."
