Prisoners

The road was uneven and the wagon was rickety. We bumped into the walls and slid on the wooden floor until we figured we had enough sense to just hold onto the bars. Except for the thump of the horse's hooves and the rolling and squeaking of the wagon, it was silent. That was until I started talking a while through.

"Hyria, " I whispered, scared the guard may overhear, "Why are we being taken to an island? What is this alliance anyways?"

"It's a group of villages in an alliance with Phoenixdrop. This island is a sort of base for those people. They have been looking for the high priest. If he is found and imprisoned it is asked of the other villages to send him there. It is the home of the people he's hurt the most. "

This version of me has done awful things. He's hurt so many people.

"Hyria? " I asked, "How do you know all of this anyways? "

"Just like how you saw the high priest. I have visions. We also used the communicator mirror," She answered.

"I see... "

We sat in silence after that. There was nothing more to say. We were here, on an earthy, annoyingly bumpy road, heading to a cell in the place where I was least wanted. What did this high priest do to Phoenixdrop? Kill more innocent people? Of course Hyria knew. And I would've asked her too if another guard didn't decide to trail behind just as we were about a mile down.

The sun was shining and the greenest of green trees sat around the path, and here we were, in a cage heading to the place where surely everyone wanted to kill me.

After hours of riding on that death vehicle, we rolled off the path and into the forest, coming to a stop. It was getting dark so they wanted to make camp. Of course, we were still stuck in the wagon. Hard wood would be our companion for the night.

I overheard that they were planning on doing the switch the guard and the other sleeps thing. In all universes this is a smart move. Although, we haven't even talked about escaping. Truthfully, there would just be no point. The cage is too sturdy. But if we had a sword or something, we might've been able to pierce through the wooden floor. Really, I mean wood? Rookie mistake. If we hid a dagger on us it would be all too easy to escape.

After a while, the guard that was awake slumped down against a tree next to their campfire. He didn't fall asleep, but he was pretty out of it.

I look to Hyria. She sat on her knees, her eyes closed. Concentrated.

"Hyria, " I said, figuring the crackle of the fire would hide my words, "How will we get out of this? "

"We wait, " She didn't move a muscle. She didn't even open her eyes,"We can't get out of here, but there might be a chance of escaping when get to the island. Once we are let out of here, make a run for it. It's the most plausible plan we have, even if there's a low chance we make it. "

"Agreed, " I huffed, "I just hope I don't die in another realm as another person. "

"Just one thing about going to the island- stay away from everyone you can. Especially the higher-ups like the lord or head guards."

"Noted. "

"Now get some sleep. You'll need the energy, " She said firmly.

I laid down in the corner of the wagon. It was uncomfortable, but I soon found myself drifting off.

Soon, we have a chance to escape.

I awoke to the sound of hooves and the squeaking of rusted wheels, we were moving now. I sat up and clenched my side. It aches from the hard wood.
