Fire

            A tragedy took it's toll.

Zane stared out into the night.  A scream howled through the wind.  The sight was all a blur. But one thing was for sure, a house fire was upon us.

Zane ran and ran. It felt like he was in slow motion. The cries for help softly echoed through his mind. The wind pushed gently at his face. Tears dripped slowly into the cold. The slow motion stopped.

He was in front of the burning house. The next scream was his cue.  He sprinted to the porch and pushed down the door. He looked to his left,  and then to his right. He saw a figure. It looked up at him, a torch in his hand. He did this. He set the fire.  Zane stared into his brown eyes. He was about to charge at him, when he heard another scream. He looked at the figure, and then to the stairs. He glanced at the figure once more and ran up to the second floor.

"NANA!? " He called.

"I'M HERE! " He heard a sob.

Zane ran into Kawaii~Chan's room. She was huddled in a corner. She looked up at him with hopeful eyes.

"IT'S OKAY! I'M GONNA GET YOU OUT OF HERE! " Zane lifted her up.

He tried to get downstairs, but smoke filled his lounges. He coughed and gaged. His legs were failing him. But he finally made it, limbs weak and tired, but he made it downstairs.

"Z-zane.. " Kawaii~Chan's eyes fluttered weakly.

"It's going to be okay, just hang on! " He cooed.

Zane stumbles out the door,  Kawaii~Chan in his arms. He gasped for air. As he glanced at Kawaii~Chan he saw that she was unconscious.

"Nana hold on! "

He heard a sound. A rustle came from the side of the house. It was the figure. Zane could see a strip of dark brown hair coming out from his hood. He looked at Zane and then sprinted out into the night. He reached out towards the figure, but failed to move. He has to let him go. For now at least. As soon as the figure disappeared, he heard another sound. A siren. A fire truck, ambulance, and police cars parked in front of the house. Firefighters came running with hoses, spraying water left and right. A man came up to Zane.

"Everyone alright here!? "

"No Nana is unconscious, please help her! "He pleaded.

The firefighter signaled to the paramedics. They came over with a stretcher and took Kawaii~Chan away. They almost took Zane, but he rejected the idea since he was not injured. So he stayed. A police officer walked up to him with a notepad.

" Sir, please describe what happened here today. "

Zane nodded and explained that a hooded figure set the fire and what he looked like. 

"And no one else was with you,  correct? "

"Yes. It was just Kawaii~Chan here. I saw the fire and came, I live just across the street, " Zane pointed at his house.

The police officer continued to ask questions.  Finally,  he closed his notepad.

"All right. Thank you, that's all we need from you today. We will start looking for this person and get it taken care of. "

Zane nodded and was allowed to go meet Kawaii~Chan at the hospital. He went to his car and started to drive. It's been a long night.
