Fresh air and the feeling of stretching your legs. We only got a taste of it. Our fresh air was traded for the chance to stretch our legs. Now, we're in the jail on the island, waiting for the Lord's, also called the alliance leader's, return so they can decide our fate.

The jail was an underground system. Rusted copper colored bars and no windows. The only light that wasn't artificial was the bit of sunlight coming from the stairs leading up to the streets. Even that was far away. We were the last cell down the long, dark hallway. The room the stairs were in was where they kept the prisoner's belongings, so a storage room pretty much. Our cell was built into a small cave. We were the O ly cell with earth as their floor. Apparently, they didn't account for that when they were building.

There were a few lanterns around the place. Smart that they weren't candles. Imagine what the prisoners would do with fire. There were also two creaky tan beds, one of which Hyria was sitting on.

"What are we supposed to do now? " I threw up my hands.

"Try to find a wait to escape, see if we can convince the alliance leader of who we are, or hope for some miracle. And of course, we have to stay away from the second option at all costs. "

"Okay so... Try to escape? " I asked.

She stood up, "My thoughts exactly. "

I looked to the bars. Yep. We're doing that cliche. We started to look for something heavy or sharp.

They swept the place out. Lantern. Too high and glass would do us no good. Beds. Bars. Ground. Rock walls. Bed-

I went over to the beds, "Hyria check yours. "

She nodded, catching my drift. Under the mattress there was the wired frame. Under that was a few loose rocks. I grabbed two.

I stiffly walked over to the bars, the loud sound already in my head. I slowly hit the bar, sandwiched between the rocks. But tapping it would do nothing. Hesitantly, I crashed the rocks onto it. It released a loud clang. I cringed. There was a rustle coming from the storage room. Two figures appeared at the end of the hallway. I scrambled back to the bed, lifted up the mattress, and tossed the rocks into the pile. The mattress thumped down. I turned just in time to see the guards emerging from the hallway.

"Ay! What was that noise? " Gaurd 1 barked.

I froze for a second. If they took away the rocks then we'd have no weapons or tools for trying to escape.

"I kicked the bed and it collided with the other, " I said.

"You kicked it a foot away? It doesn't look like they collided to me," Gaurd 2 said, unconvinced.

"They're not that heavy. Their cheap, I'm sure. We also moved them back into place. "

They looked at each other. "We'll be keeping an eye on you, "Gaurd 1 said, before retreating.

I sighed with relief and plopped onto the bed, " At least we know they put 'guard dogs' out there. "

"I suppose... " Hyria's mind was off in some other place.

"Hyria? What is it? "

"I have an idea. Get some rocks. "

I stood up and pulled two out.

I handed them to her, "What are you thinking? "

She took them and rubbed one on the other, "Sharpen it. A weapon. We might be able to use it to escape. "

She placed them back in my hands, "You get started on it. My craft is in the witchy kind. "

I nodded and started scraping along the edge of the sharpest rock. I didn't see anything happening. This might take a while.

Meanwhile, Hyria sat on her bed. Meditating? Ah, probably doing her witchy stuff. It'd be best if I didn't interrupt.

"I can feel your eyes on me, " Hyria said casually.

"Oh, ehm sorry. Just, confused-"

"It's okay," She said, cutting me short, "I'm trying to connect with the other me. For our sake let's just call her the Forest Witch."

"You can do that? Without the mirror?" I asked, astonished.

"Yes, but it's harder without a communicator like the mirror, and it drains more of my power. "

"Why are you just doing this now? " I groaned.

"There were always people watching. And you couldn't have a drained witch if we were to escape. Now, we have some time, " She answered.

"I see, " I said and went back to the rocks.

She went back to her communicating thing, mind you, her eyes were closed during our whole conversation so the only difference was that she stopped talking.

Later on we were fed some dinner. It was just some toasted bread and corn, but it was way better than jerky. I finally got a little scraped off from the rock as well. Eventually my hands needed a break, and Hyria's mind did too. We went ahead and used the squeaky beds, but oh man was it hard to go to sleep.

We've had a rough day, but tomorrow brings new hope.
