The Trideviyaan

Sarva mangala mangalye
Shive sarvarth saadhike//
Sharanyee trayambake gauri
Narayani namostute//

Om jayanti mangala kali
Bhadrakali kapalini//
Durgaashama shivaa dhwaatrii
Swahaa swadha namostute//

Salutations to the divine mother, the most auspicious of all, the most helpful of all, the most terrible and ferocious of all, we bow down to the mother who has duality in her nature and is thus nirguna omkara. We bow down to all her forms past, present and future.

Thus the tridev worshipped omkara the divine energy that gave them birth and from the word om arose the feminine energy, aadiparashakti, the mother of the world. Such was her beauty that she was difficult to be visualised, for her form was fluid, ever changing, sometimes dark hued and sometimes gold skined, sometimes covered with reddish blood and sometimes draped in a pristine white saree.

"Hey maa" the tridevas prostrated before her, "we have been born from omkarnaad, like you, yet we feel incomplete, we don't have inspiration, our actions are not productive to the world rather they are founded on male arrogance. We beseech you oh godess, the feminine energy of this world to complete us". "So be it" ,resounded in the world and next to the tridevas suddenly stood their shakti, their ardhangini, their completion, their inspiration for the world. Next to the fairest of all Shiva stood the dark hued Kaali, bearing immense strength to destroy the evil. Next to the dark hued Naarayana came the golden hued Lakshmi, bearing power and grace to run the world and next to the creator Brahma was his knowledgeable ardhangini Saraswati who would help guide his actions. Thus, was each tridev given his inspiration to act and with it the help and love of the one who would complete them.
