"Saaatttttiiiiiii" Shiva shouted, getting to know his beloved's demise the moment she left her earthly body. Grieving, he tried to understand what had happened. Was his love less for her? Was she angry with him, that he didn't go with her? He felt as if any moment his wife would come, playfully cover his eyes from behind and say she is here. He waited and waited for her but she didn't come. Suddenly Nandi came running to him.
"Nandi why are you injured, where is my Sati. Tell her to come out, not to play hide and seek. I will not behave angrily with her anymore. Tell her to forgive me. I will go with her anywhere she wants. I will not stop her from anything. Tell her to come out. Where is she? What happened." A grievous Nandi retold the story of Daksha's yagna, how he insulted Sati, how Sati lost her temper when he insulted Mahadev, how she immolated herself, how the ganas fought with Daksha's army when they realized what had happened and how they were injured and defeated. Rage, suddenly that was the only emotion left in Mahadev. Rage at Prajapti, rage on the world, rage. In his anger he started doing Tandav, a dance which helps in channeling the energies of the world and he channeled it towards destruction. He pulled one of his matted locks and split it on a nearby rock. From one end came the fierce Veerbhadra and from the other Bhadrakali proving to the world once again as to how Shiva and Shakti are complementary to each other, parts of each other."Go and kill Daksha. Destroy his sacrifice" bade the god of destruction and then went into meditation awaiting the results. Accepting the Lord's words as their command they went towards the yagna. In the meanwhile Daksha felt many ill omens. The people in the sacrifice were frightened and tried to flee. Suddenly a soldier came telling him about Veerbhadra, Bhadrakali and their army of shiv ganas. He ordered his army to destroy them, however they were destroyed in the battle. He then bade rishi Bhrigu to create an army of demons to destroy them but they to were destroyed. In desperation he prayed to the devtas and Lord Narayan to protect him. The devtas were defeated and turned to Lord Narayan. The mighty Lord requested Daksha to leave his ego and seek forgiveness, but no, Daksh wouldn't do so. He reminded Narayan about his devotion to him, about his importance to the order of the world and forced the god to try and protect him. Narayan was in a dilemma. On one side was Veerbhadra who was the ansh(part) of Lord Shiva and on the other side his devotee Daksh. Being bound to his devotee he sent an energy bolt towards Veerbhadra which stopped him in his tracks and bound him. He then went to Daksh and said that he had done his duty, now whatever would happen will depend on whether Daksh seeks forgiveness or not. Arrogantly Daksh said he won't seek any forgiveness. Saying so be it Narayan left forhis heavenly abode. Meanwhile, the ever dutiful Veerbhadra wasn't able to proceed on his mission. He prayed to Bhadrakali to help him. She the true form of energy came and released him from his bindings. Taking his sword Veerbhadra went towards Daksha and sliced his neck separating his head completely from his body. The head went and fell in the sacrificial fire of the yagna, completely destroyed. Mission accomplished they went back to Mahadev bearing the tidings.
