Brahmadev had plenty of manas putras and putris. Foremost among them was prajapati Daksh. He married devi prastuti and had many sons and daughters. His sons mainly took the ascetic path and their names are lost in the anals of history. But his daughters Dakshaniyaan are the mothers of all creation, like Additi, mother of devtas then Kadru mother of snakes, Ditti,  mother of asuras, Vinita mother of garuda and arundev, and Dhanu mother of rakshasa. Thus 13 daughters of daksh  were married to rishi kashyap, making him the father of all species on earth. He had 27 daughters who married Chandradev, Rohini being the most famous. His daughter Sachi married indradev. Countless other daughters married the saptarishis and all the prominent people of the world other than suryadeva and tridev. Being in such a prominent position, he was given the job by Brahmaa to make rules and rituals for society. Brahmaa also thought him the ideal person to fulfill his fondest wish of seeing Shiva back with his ardhangini. When the world was stabilised and self sufficient, he requested Daksha to meditate on goddess Adishakti and request her ansh to be born in his house as his daughter to complete Shivaa. Daksh following his father's advice was blessed with a daughter unrivalled in beauty and grace called Sati. She was adishakti, she was Kaali born as a human to reunite with her love. However a few years after her birth a incident occured which made him hate Shiva.

Brahmaa wanted to make Shiva come out from his sadness, his aloofness from everything so that his plan to get Shiva and Sati wed would materialize. He hadn't even realised about the birth of Sati. None of Brahmaa's efforts were working. Even Narayan was not able to get Shiva out of his apathetic behaviour. He realised, they have to involve Shiva in the workings of the world, for that they have to interfere with the rules of the world, and the best way was the vedas. Brahma having 5 heads decided that each of his 4 heads would extoll the vedas, but his 5th head which was facing upwards will say bad about the vedas. This would create enough anger in Shiva to get him out of his morose headspace as he couldn't tolerate anything happening to the world his Shakti sacrifised herself for. His plan worked well and Shiva in a fit of anger took his Rudra swaroop cutting of Brahmaa's 5th head from his body. Shiva was aghast at what he did.  He requested Brahmaa to forgive him, which he did saying that all the tridev are important for the world and Shiva's state was bad for the world. This was the only way to get him into action as he knew Shiva would protect the world at any cost. However Shiva had done a Brahman hatya by cutting of Brahma's head and he had to pay the price. The skeleton of Brahma's 5th head was stuck to his hands and he roamed here and there doing tapasya to absolve himself of his sin. Later only in Kashi was he able to do so, so he declared Kashi as a place close to his heart, praying there with a pure heart would be enough to cleans even the most wicked person of his sins.  Shiva by then had become aware of Sati. However Shani came to warn him that he was still partly absolved only, even the tridev have to face their Karmas.  Not wanting to lose her due to his Karma, he did his best to avoid her, sending Brahmaa into further confusion with his antics.

Daksh was egoistic and hearing about his father made his impression about Shiva who he thought of as a beggar like, uncivilsed poor devta sour further and he was apprehensive of letting Sati, his youngest and most favourite daughter marry him.
