"You what? Luke, I don't think . . ."

"It . . . will . . . be . . . great. I . . . would . . . like . . . for . . . you . . . to . . . stay." he said, kissing up my neck.

"Stop it! Luke stop, you don't know what you're talking about." I argued, moving away from the counter.

"Yes I do."

"No, you really don't. We can't just hop into a new living situation like that, not with your daughter being here. There has to be middle ground because she doesn't know me, we don't know each other, you can't just have me live here. Which means I won't be staying here tonight."

"Come on, Penny." he sighed.

"Babe, I want to stay, I do but we can't do that. We can spend the day together and you can go get your daughter, we'll meet today but I'm not staying. You said it yourself, you've been busy at work all this week so spend the night with your daughter and I'll go home."

"I want the two of you to get to know each other." he insisted.

"We will, with time Luke. She's not a baby anymore, you can't expect this to just happen. Sam knows who her family is and I'm a stranger. This is something that happens over time, not overnight." I told him, caressing his cheek.

"Okay, fine but at some point I want you to move in." he replied, bending down for a kiss.

"We'll talk about that later on down the road."

We had a really nice day with his daughter. At first, she wasn't really receptive and that's more than acceptable. It took her a little while to warm up to me but by the time I left, I think we could be considered friends.

Luke told me that she's never met a woman that he's dated before and I felt honored. It means a lot when you start to meet the family, that's very serious. Mia was in the kitchen when I walked in wearing yesterday's clothes.

"Please tell me that you didn't wear that all day." she said.

"No, he had some of his sister's clothes there and I used one of her dresses. We didn't really go out except to get his daughter so when I told him to drop me off I put my clothes back on." I replied.

"How was it? You told me that you were nervous this afternoon, did you have fun?" she worriedly asked me.

"I did, his daughter is adorable and just as taken with her father as he is with her. Seeing them together is just so cute."

"Why didn't you stay?"

"He asked me to move in with him."

"What?"

"He said he wanted me to live there but I can't, not so quickly."

"Why not?"

"No, I don't mean it in a bad way. I just mean that he has a daughter, a growing girl and she doesn't know me. I think we have to work her up to getting used to seeing me around before something that big happens." I reasoned.

"Okay, that makes sense, especially with a little girl. You're taking your time and being careful, that's the right thing to do. I don't know what I would do if Brian and I broke up, having him introduce another woman to Jack." she said.

"That'll never happen so don't worry." Brian said, walking through the kitchen to kiss her and walk out the door to the backyard.

"The two of you are so cute sometimes, it makes me wanna hurl."

"Shut up you dumbass. Go shower and say hi to your nephew." Mia scolded.

"Yes mom, I will."

As time passed we all settled down into our new lives. I started writing a book and doing some freelance photography. After people got over who I was, I had a pretty steady client base. The guys were working in the garage and after a while Kaylee and Tej went back to the Dominican Republic.
