the solid ground they were walking on went from concrete to grass suddenly, and donghyuck's chest tightened in fear. "mark, if you're about to yeet me off a cliff, please at least give me a warning."
the melodious laugh rang out from next to him. "don't worry hyuck, i won't be getting rid of you anytime soon."
"okay, then same."
"were you going to try get rid of me?"
"nope, i just needed to make sure that you weren't going to kill me as i confess my undying love to you."
mark chuckled and donghyuck tighten his hold on the older boy's arm. the terrain around them started to get rocky, but mark guided him on until they reached their destination. mark loosened the fabric covering donghyuck's eyes and it hung around the boy's neck as he opened his eyes.
they were standing in an entrance of a small cave on the side of a mountain that seemed like it hadn't been visited for a while now, due to the vines and dried tree roots around it.
inside, was a different story.
the cave walls were lined with twinkling fairy lights and pictures were hung from them. donghyuck stepped little closer and saw that it was pictures of little mark and his hyungs. near the bottom though, were the more recents photos: of him and mark, of their seven people friend group, and even a picture of them and mark's hyungs when he all hung out on mark's birthday.
"this had always been my little hideout since i was a kid," mark said from behind donghyuck. "i'd stopped going when i hit high school, cause y'know... it was kinda childish, but i wanted to bring you here. to show you a piece of me that i can't describe."
"and you decided that it was a good idea to make me hike up the side of a mountain blindfolded?" donghyuck said as he turned around and cocked an eyebrow at his boyfriend.
mark smile sheepishly. "i wanted it to be a surprise...?"
donghyuck shook his head, but a smile slowly took over his face. he walked over to mark, who stood near the entrance of the cave, and planted a soft kiss on his lips. "thank you. for doing all of this for me."
mark's eyes lit up. "oh, this isn't even the best part!"
he walked inside of the cave and flipped off all of the battery operated fairy lights. he intertwined their hands and led the younger boy outside of the cave and pointed up.
in the middle of the night sky was the moon and millions of stars twinkling down on them.
"woah," donghyuck breathed out. "i've never really seen the stars this bright before."
"well, you can blame it on light pollution in the city."
donghyuck laugh and the two stood there in silence, gazing at the stars twinkling above them. though they weren't talking, there were a million things going on between them. it's a difficult thing to try to explain, but it's the feeling when you needn't talk to someone with words. like when you speak with a gentle brush of shoulders, a look across the room, a door opened, a smile as you pass someone you love, a racing heart as you see them coming up the driveway. there is power in silence, and while they didn't say a word in those moments of silence, they both know that their hearts were beating for each other under the starry night sky.
