"Damn it," Nadia hisses as she drops her stack of papers on the floor. It flies everywhere and she groans looking down at it. "I really hate this shit," she mumbles to herself. She bends down still sitting in her chair and begins to grab the papers. They crunch as she snatches them into a pile. She rolls her chair to the end of her desk and does her best attempt to grab the few white sheets that lay underneath. After multiple failed efforts she grabs one. "AHA," she smirks. Her moment of gratification is cut short when her phone rings. She jumps and bangs her head underneath the desk.
"FUCK!" she shouts grabbing the back of her head. The phone is still ringing loudly. Nadia looks at the screen. "Hey girl," she sighs as she stands up and heads over to her fridge.
"OMG Nads you actually answered!" her best friend Aiesha shouts through the phone.
"Yeah, but now I'm wishing I hadn't," she says while turning her volume down.
"Haha very funny," Aiesha says sarcastically. Nadia can hear her shuffling in the background.
"Esh, what are you doing?" Nadia asks.
"Oh, girl. I'm good. I was just wondering if yo ass wanted to come hang out with me and some of the girls from my job. We about to go to this club and get lit!"
"Nah, I'm good. I would prefer not to watch you get shitfaced and get fired from yet another job," Nadia chuckles as she heads back into her living room to grab the rest of the papers. She can feel Aiesha's judgement through the phone.
"I promise to be on my best behavior this time, but only if you come girl. When was the last time you got out anyways?"
"I'm not sure, Esh," Nadia sighed as she placed the newly ordered papers into a 3 ring binder.
"Exactly. That's a problem. Gone and get dressed imma be on my way in about 30 minutes."
"Aiesha, what part of "I. Am. Not. Going." Do you not understand?"
"No,I understand all of it just fine. You should just know me well enough to know that "I. Do. Not. Give. A. Fuck", Aiesha taunts through the phone. Nadia groans and lays her face on the cool wood of her desk. She knows she can't win a fight with her no matter how hard she tries. "Well?" Aiesha asks again.
"Fine." Nadia sighs in defeat. She would rather stay home and continue writing.
"Aight, see you in thirty," Aiesha hangs up.
After a moment of sitting at her desk, contemplating if she should change her mind, Nadia gets up and heads into her room. She marches over to her closet and starts shufflings through clothing for something to wear. She pulls out a few outfits only to put them back.
"God, could my clothes be anymore boring?" she asks herself as she sits on her queen size bed. She places her head in her hands and frowns. "What can I wear?" she looks towards her dresser and thinks for a moment before realizing that she still has the dress her ex-boyfriend bought her.
"Thanks Alex," she smirks to herself as she marches over to her dresser. She opens the second to last drawer to expose a short black dress. She picks it up by the straps and grins as it unfolds. It's a bit skimpy of course, but not too much. She heads to the bathroom to get dressed.
About 30 minutes later Nadia hears her door buzzer. She doesn't even mind speaking through the intercom because she already knows who it is. She heads back to the bathroom to put the finishing touches of her makeup on.
Her front door bangs open.
"NADIA!" Aiesha sings as she skips into Nadia's bedroom and collapses on the bed. Nadia rolls her eyes and chuckles.
