The next morning Nadia wakes to a sounds coming from her kitchen. She knows who it is; only one person has a key to her apartment. She sits up in her bed slowly, rubbing her face."So you will never believe what happened to me last night," Aiesha says as she rounds the corner with a bowl of cereal. She sits on the edge of the bed and takes a big bite. Nadia looks at her with curiosity.
"What happened?" Nadia asks as she yawns. She grabs her phone off the nightstand and scoots her back against the headboard.
"So after I dropped you off last night I headed back to the club," she said. Nadia sighed.
"Of course you did," Nadia rolls her eyes playfully.
"You said it yourself that I was going to get drunk," Aiesha grinned and took another bite of cereal. "Anyways don't judge me yet; there's more to the story," she laughs. Nadia pulls her knees up to her chest and squints her eyes at Aiesha.
"So. I went back and started dancing with this guy and drinking. We're on the dancefloor dancing it up,' she puts the bowl on the floor and begins to reenact the scene. "All of a sudden I get a drink thrown in my face," she acts shocked. "I'm like what the heck is going on, ya know. I turn around and look at the guy confused and his face is just frozen in fear so I look back the other way," she begins to clap her hands. "Tell me why there's a woman who is now calling me out my name and screaming at her "boyfriend"," she stands up. "Girl let me tell you. I tried to scoot out of there because I was not in the mood to be yelled at plus I was dripping from the drink that she just tossed on me," she sat sat down. "As I'm trying to walk away the girl grabbed my arm and started beating on me. I was livid because you know how I feel about these crusty hoes putting they hands on me," she stuck her lips out.
"So you got kicked out of the club last night for fighting," Nadia asks sighing. She stood up and moved towards the bathroom.
"Yeah and they threw my shit at me so fast my wallet fell out so we need to go back and get it."
Nadia was brushing her teeth. She spit out the toothpaste and turned her head to look at Aiesha.
"We?" Nadia raises an eyebrow.
"Yep now put this on and get dressed. We're going on a mission," Aiesha tosses some jeans and an old t-shirt at Nadia. Nadia catches them with one hand with a look of annoyance on her face. She reluctantly puts the clothes on and heads out the door.
...
As Nadia pulls onto the parking lot of the night club Aiesha jumps out of the car and heads straight to the door.
"Aiesha...wai!" Nadia tries to shout as she parks the car. Her friend is already marching inside the building."Lord, please don't let this girl do anything else stupid," she mumbles as she snatches the keys out the ignition. She runs inside after Aiesha.
When she enters she stops for a second. They club looks entirely different in the day. The floor area was a huge empty space that seemed to go on forever. The stage was grand without all of the equipment on it. She glanced upwards to the balcony where she remembered seeing the strange man from last night. Images of him played back in her head. She could remember distinct characteristics like his muscles or his perfect jawline that emerged when he turned to the side. She remembered his stare, its intensity, and the power it seemed to have over her.
"Nads, did you hear me? Look around," Aiesha said tapping Nadia on the shoulder. She jumped slightly.
"Oh yeah," she began searching. "Are you sure that we're supposed to be in here?" she asks as she goes and checks the seats that lined the walls.
