[a few months earlier]

I abruptly woke up, a cold sweat enveloping me as the pain slowly began to work it's way into my body. I lie in my bed staring at the ceiling with my jaw clenched trying to will the pain away. I bite my lower lip as it began to intensify.

"1, 2, 3, 4..." I began to count trying to distract myself from the pain I was am feeling, "5, 6, 7, 8."

I clench a fistful of my bed sheets. Sitting up I swing my legs over the bed, the pain seems to lessen as I do leaving me light headed. I reached for the nightstand, my hand gripping it I stared at the clock face shining 3.30am. I sighed, standing up I then walked to my window. I stared out into the night, the clouds filling in the sky only leaving a small glimpse of the moon peeking out. I reached back and sat in the small brown recliner facing the window. Pulling my legs to my chest I then placed my head on my knees, settling in to the familiar shape of the chair I closed my eyes.

I opened my eyes slowly to the sun pouring into my small window. I stretched my arms and then placed them back atop of my knees. I sighed not wanting to leave the comfort of the chair. My mind drifted slowly as my eyes scaned the vast tree lines.

"Come on, don't tell me you slept there again last night," a voice drifted through the room.

"I, uh didn't. I was just watching the sun come up," I said in response.

"Mom won't like that if she finds out," Emma huffed as she sinked down into my bed.

"how will she know? she never comes here and plus why would she care? she hasn't cared all these years?" I questioned.

"listen you know how it is for you, the staff always watches you more closely, just be careful yeah?" she said shifting her weight on the bed.

I noded my head before, turning to look back out the window as a few cars began to pull in to the parking area.

"a busy day?" my sister asked leaning forward trying to get a good look out of the 3rd story window.

"looks like it," I said as I began unfolding my legs from underneath me. Mumbling I continue "summer is always busier."

I soon made my way to the small wardrobe and pulled a hoodie down out of it and shruged it on over my shoulders. Despite the warm air of summer the hospital corridors always left me with a chill.

After pulling a pair of shorts on I looked over to Emma and a grin began to spread across my face, "let's see what trouble we can get in to today huh."

Emma pushed up off the bed in a cheerful mood as I slid my shoes on. We soon were walking out the quiet door of my room.
