Prelude

Today, I discovered I was a witch. I had accidentally set my neighbors garden on fire. She was yelling at me because I had gotten too close to her precious garden. I glared at it and suddenly it went up in flames. She began screaming historically and trying to turn on her hose. I ran home.

I am 16, freshmen in high school, I have long black hair and really blue eyes, and I have a size 10 waist and a size B chest. I’m semi-popular but only because my older sister is a cheerleader, the head cheerleader. Thankfully she isn’t a total bitch like the others who only pretend to like me. I was your average punk girl with my black eyeliner eyes and clear lip gloss. My favorite cloths were my tight black Tripp pants and skull and cross bone shirts. I wore black flats, even in the winter. I liked to read Edger Allen Poe, Stephen King, and Shakespeare. And my name is Emilie.

I told my mom about what happened and her and my father looked at each other and told me that they were magic as well. I was now sitting in the principal’s office of Dusk Academy; a school for people just like me.

I was staring at the floor when the door opened and my mom motioned me inside the actual office. I slowly walked in.

A kind-looking woman was sitting in a chair behind a desk. She had her grey hair up in a lose bun and her glasses were at the tip of her nose. She smiled warmly to me and motioned me to have a seat. I took it, feeling a little less nervous.

“So, Miss Rosemont, you are all signed in and ready to start on Monday.” She said with a smile. I nodded as she handed me a folder. “You will be here at 8 in the morning and I will have a fellow witch show you around campus. Your teachers have been informed of your absence and it will not be marked against you. Your books are already at your house waiting for you.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Willow.” My mother said with a smile.

The school had its own living areas so I was now packing for the school year. I felt like Harry Potter as I packed away my clothes. Thankfully, this school didn’t require any uniform. I was still able to wear what I wanted and not a suit. As the Harry Potter Thought crossed my mind, I half wanted to bring an owl or a cat. I packed my laptop, its charger, my IPod and its charger, I packed the fully stocked Nook my mother got me as a going away gift, and finally I packed my makeup bag. I sighed and looked around my room. I wouldn’t be back till Christmas Break. I would miss my bed. I grabbed my ‘Jack’ pillow after I realized I hadn’t and closed my final suitcase. I had three packed and ready to go. I looked around again for final things and carried my bags with much struggle down the stairs.

My mom looked up at me from her desk and she grinned. “Look at you, going away for a few months…” My dad walked up behind her and smirked. “Need any help?”

“No…I got it…” I said and put them next to the door. The school was about a five hour drive out. It was in the middle of nowhere and apparently had a spell over it to ensure its secret stay kept. “It feels like I am in a J.K. Rowling book…”

“After you get a taste of this school you will wish it was Hogwarts…” my dad muttered. Mom gave him a glare and hit him in the side. “Ow! That school sucked for me…”

“It was great, Hugh…."

“Maybe for you Miss popular.”

I rolled my eyes. They finally told me the real story about how they meet. It was dad’s final year at Dusk Academy and he had finally caught the eye of the head cheerleader, my mom. He had punched out mom’s old boyfriend after he had embarrassed my mom. Apparently dad was a huge nerd. The boyfriend almost got the upper hand on my dad till dad cast a spell that made the other boy freeze. The other boy was only a werewolf.

Also, I found out that vampires, werewolves, fairies, goblins, and all sorts of things were real and that J.K. Rowling was, herself, a witch. She had to get clearance from the Magic Government in order to publish her idea for her book. I had almost fainted when all this information was brought before me but I managed to take freaky well since I myself was a freak.
