There are moments in time that can change every aspect of your life. For some people it could be a single career choice that opens up thousands of doors, or even it could be something so unexpected that you would have never guessed that it could happen to you.

Well, today was that day. The day that could never be changed and the start of a life I could no longer alter. Because that's how these things work, they leave you with the knowledge that things will never be the same, no matter how hard you try. And this chain reaction started because today was the day I met my soulmate.

But, I'm getting ahead of myself.

Let's rewind a bit to a few weeks ago.

It was around quarter to twelve on the flimsy train. I had been looking forward to getting home all day but certain things got in the way of that. It was sort of an unspoken rule that things never seem to go as planned in Paris.

"Ladies and gentlemen, there's going to be a thirty minute delay, we apologize for the inconvenience."

It was one thing being on an all night train, but it was a different story when that train was stuck. So, I sat in the dark tunnel, trying to find something to occupy myself with.

After playing a few rounds of some game and finding other ways to kill my battery, my phone died. My last source of entertainment gone. Although I managed to waste some time, the car was still stuck and there was time to spare.

With every increasing minute, my eyes got heavier and if I didn't concentrate on the low budget adverts on the walls of the car, I probably would have been drifting to sleep.

One of those adverts had my eye, though.

Soulmate not the love of your life? Join millions of others who feel the same.

Although I didn't want to think about it, I can't deny that the thought had crossed my mind.

What if my soulmate isn't the one?

It wasn't common but it could happen. My neighbor, a lady named Buttercup, started stripping after she found out that her soulmate was gay. The one she was supposed to love forever after was attracted to men. She went a bit crazy after hearing that.

The thought made me queasy so I pushed it aside and tried to think happy thoughts. Like how I had pepper spray in my bag in case the man walking up and down the car tried anything.

There was nothing left to do but wait.

...

As soon as I stepped onto the translucent and illuminated floor, a soufflé of clouds swirled around me, announcing my sudden presence.

I looked around to see nothing but ocean surround the circular pedestal elevated into the sky.

"And here I was thinking you weren't going to show." The figure behind the sleek black grand piano joked.

He looked the same as always, despite the few changes made to his clothes and accessories; still the same golden mask and tuxedo, but with more detailing and a golden bow tie. He never failed to impress.

"Oh, it's a long story that we don't have time for." He nodded and gestured for me to sit with him on the piano bench. I made my way towards him, thankful that I am at least graceful here.

The sky changed from blue to a lustrous yellow when his slender hands collided with the keys, accompanied by the melodies of a violin and a cello. I looked around to see where they were coming from, but his hand gently grabbed my face and made me focus on him.

I tried not to let the fact that the keys were moving by themselves distract me.

"You look really captivating. But then again, what's new, m'lady."

I looked down at the glistening ballgown through the holes of my own mask. The fabric was soft against my skin and all the jewels on it felt as if they didn't weigh anything. It was my mind that subconsciously chose what I wore so I thanked him.

"I know you like when I wear red." I started, before changing the subject. "This is random but,"

The words I wanted to say could not be put gently. No matter how I asked I was sure it would not come across well.

Do you think we're actually soulmates?

"Go on?"

His light eyes caught mine.

"Do you like hamsters?" I blurted out. It was the only thing I could think of but in a way, I guess it was important. Extremely important.

He let out a soft laugh and turned back to the piano, his soft hair falling as he leaned over.

"I do, but I was never allowed to own one." He said sadly.

The sky turned darker, almost as if the sun was setting. I put my hand on top of his while the keys underneath still played a familiar melody.

"If it makes you feel better, I've never had one either." I shrug.

Once again, he chuckles.

"Weirdly enough, that did make me feel better."

Before I could say anything else, a sharp noise came from the sky. Two sets of stairs appeared on each side of the piano, signaling it was time to go.

"Well, good bye, my love." He bowed as he stood. Curse him and that gorgeous smile.

"Until we meet again."

He took my hand and kissed it, then turned to his set of stairs as I turned to mine. I gave him one last lingering look and then descended.

Within a second I was blinded by the ray of sunshine that crept out my curtain. Our meetings never last.

As I got out of bed I only had one thought on my mind.

Will I ever meet him?

...
