We Are Society

Who would have thought that as society,

None of us can get any R-E-S-P-E-C-T?

We can stand up, stand out, be who we want to be

Making sure everyone around us is pleased.

But they can't be; they won't

They'll just hate and judge us about all of the above.

Tearing, breaking down defences with each and every word

But no matter how much we cry or scream---

We're never heard.

And that's the most messed up part,

We, society, are killing ourselves and falling apart

Like a dart board waiting to be hit with a dart,

The anticipation.

Waiting to be hit and counting down the seconds to destruction

With each throw a mark is left,

Until it reaches the bullseye and commits theft.

Stealing away our last bits of hope for any change

Now our minds have been rearranged.

A Civil War between our consciences and hearts

We isolate, walk away

Just so we can come back the next day.

It's all crazy, man, I don't know

How are we supposed to know where to go?

"Call this number, and you'll be cured!'

We ask for an answer and the reply is always,

"Not too sure."

That adds to the problem

But if we all have the same one,

Why can't we solve them?

We don't bother, or we try too hard

Trying to rebuild and realising that we can't

We stood up, were forced to sit down

We stood out, were who we wanted to be

Until our legs got cramped.

But it's not just us,

You, and me.

Everywhere we go;

Everyone we see.

Words unspoken

Along with hidden doors left open

No effort, no one cares

Those insecurities that no one shares.

When it becomes too much, we claim we're done,

In reality, it's just started but we've gone numb.

But they'll still hate and judge us about all of the above

Because they can't be satisfied; they won't

All of this time we were trying to please the people around us

We'd hoped.

So, who would have thought that as society,

We'd crumble, broken, faster than 1,2,3?
