Watching in horror as the two guys begin to fight, I try to focus on anything except for the garbage I'm probably covered in by now. Pinching my nose a bit, I ignore the smell to the best of my ability, wondering if I can maybe sneak past them and out of this alley.
Forget the alley. I need to get out of this neighborhood with its creepy symbols, haunted buildings, and deserted alleyways.
As I peek behind the dumpster, for an instant, I find myself looking into the red eyes of the smaller, obviously superior fighter. He lights up with some kind of recognition but doesn't let it distract him. He throws another left hook before launching into a crazy kick. As they continue to struggle against each other, one very clearly gifted with speed and the other with strength, I press as closely to the huge metal dumpster as I can.
I won't deny my fear in this moment, especially as I hear bodies being slammed and thrown places. Cringing slightly, I nervously bite down on my bottom lip so hard that I'm almost sure that I'm making myself bleed. I'm absolutely terrified that they'll find me.
I hate this place so much. I almost hate it more than I hate home, and that's saying something.
Paranoid out of my mind, I keep my eyes trained everywhere at once, watching every single movement in and out of the shadows. The silhouettes pop out at me, and I clutch my bag a little closer to me. Tiny beads of sweat appear on my forehead as I desperately try to work out a plan of action for the next few minutes.
Since sneaking past those guys isn't an option at this point, I'll have to wait until their little scuffle is over so that I can book it to somewhere safer.
Inwardly, I prepare myself for a fight, knowing full well that I'll lose miserably. I'm the clumsiest person alive so there's no way that I'd be able to win against either of those guys. One's too quick on his feet, and the other looks like he could knock me out with one swing. I'm just going to have to make sure neither of them catches me.
"I hate you!" one of the guys suddenly screams, his face turning almost as red as his hair. "I hate you and all you stand for!" His whole body is tensed, and his muscles ripple as he attempts another hook. He's so overcome with anger that his movements are sloppier and his form worsens incredibly.
The smaller guy takes the opportunity to duck, missing the hit completely. "You're ripping people off. I don't understand how you think that that's okay." Somehow, he ends up being caught in the face, but he just rolls with the punch, decreasing the amount of force at which he's being impacted. "You may have grown up watching your dad taking advantage of people, but it's not okay. It's never okay."
Finally, the boy with the anger management issues begins to swing wildly, just hoping to land one somewhere. Obviously, it's not the best strategy, and I can tell that this is the opportunity that the smaller boy was waiting for.
With a few simple movements, the red faced boy with the bulging muscles is lying on the floor, and he's knocked out cold from what I can tell.
The smaller guy tugs the mask over his mouth a bit more securely before giving one last glance to the idiot on the hard ground. He almost disappears before my very eyes, and I blink several times, unable to figure out whether or not he's truly gone.
