I scramble through the notebook, searching for more hints. Finally, on the back cover, written in the same handwriting as the journal and the photo, but more jagged and hurried are even more terrifying words. SURVIVE
Questions flood my mind.
What was the photo of?
My home?
What happened?
Who else survived?
Why did my journal end in the middle of a sentence?
Survive?
Survive what?
Am I in danger?
Why am I here?
Where am I?
What brought me here?
Crew members?
Are they alive?
Where are the ruins of the vehicle?
Did we even crash?
Is this my home?
What happened to my memory?
Why would I keep a journal if nobody but me was going to read it?I was going to read it.
It was written down because I was going to read it.
It was to give me some background!!!
Survive because I'm the last hope.
I, Kyra, will find somewhere that life may live. The realization hits me.
My home is gone, but I am here to find a place for life to regrow, to get a 2nd chance. I have to stop, as the horror of what I just read causes my brain to panic. I look around again, praying there is some vehicle nearby. I come from another planet, so there must be something that got me here. Seeing a small metallic craft, I hurry toward it. The crashed vehicle must have ejected me upon impact. I crawl in, hoping to find some more clues as to what happened. Looking at the dashboard, it resembles a keyboard almost. I curiously press a blue button that has a worn image of what seems to be a sun??? Suddenly, without warning, a floating image appears. Muscle memory kicks in, and I make a subtle swiping motion with my two fingers. Suddenly a video plays. In it, there are five people, all of whom are laughing with each other. Then a massive explosion echoes, and a mushroom cloud can be seen through the window just before the screen goes blank. A few seconds pass, and a man whom I recognize as one of the people in the previous scene appears. He looked worn, exhausted, and aged. He looks at the screen and begins talking.Okay, so I guess this the 14th log?? I don't know. It has been too long. The explosion has recently been proven to be more dangers than people, though. It wiped out 95% of Earth's population, including people, animals, and plants, as well as half the ocean's marine life. However, we all thought that was the end, right? No. Not only did it make Earth a complete wasteland in seconds, where no life can flourish at all, but the intensity of the radioactive waves also dramatically mutated the ones closest to the explosion. Many, of course, died, but some people were lucky. Coming to ensure their loved ones were ok after the explosion and all that. These folks, once they stepped into what many are now calling the ZONE, immediately mutated within seconds. There are now rumors of giant terrifying grotesque beasts running about. The worst, apparently a cockroach, A ROACH OF ALL THINGS, mutated the worst. There have been rumors of the creature, and many people have been found brutally murdered. The radioactive waves it gives off are so bad that just being within a 12-mile radius of it can kill you. If you somehow survive being near it? The beast also can mutate other people by biting them. It does this by injecting liquid into the bloodstream that is extremely radioactive. People have come together to survive and combat these nightmarish horrors. We are the last humans, and have grouped ourselves into squadrons. Each squadron has a specific mission it must carry out. Squadron 001 is to travel the cosmos to find another planet and repopulate. Lets face it, earth is out of the picture. It took milinea to rid Chernobyl of the radioactive waves. An entire planet? Well, our bones will be found alongside the dinosaurs by the time Earth has healed itself. Squadron 002 is assigned to treatment of the sick . Squadron 003 is the combat group. Squadron 004 is working to cleanse our water and give us all food that hasn't beeen hit by the R Waves. Squadroon 005, my squad, are to record everything that has happened to the very minute detail. Squadran 006 is scouting places to build, since we are always on the move. Squadroon 007 is the leaders , we all report to them. Kinda like a mini goverment. Each squad has 5 people witin it. 7 squadrons, each consisting of 5 people. And we are the very last people on earth. Do the math. Earth's population is 35 people.
I stare at the screen for awhile. I find more info on my squad, but none on me. Apparently I was the leader of that squadron though. Finding another document written by me, i begin to read.
