Storm

Have you ever witnessed
The calm before a storm
The cool air and the quiet
But you know that it'll soon transform
The feeling is eerie
Unpleasant at best
Because it could come from anywhere
The East or the West
At any moment, something just snaps
And the serenity is lost
The howling winds replace the quiet
The storm doesn't care about the cost
Not the chaos it creates
Or the destruction left in its wake
It's violent winds, like angry voices,
Viciously berate
Tearing apart everything
That crosses its path
Nothing and no one
Is safe from its wrath
That's how I feel, looking across the room
As my parents laugh and play
I say a silent prayer,
Knowing that tomorrow it won't be that way
