I stared at her in shock when she said the word 'mate.' I had no idea if she understood what she had said because all she did was furrowed her brows and back away from me, clutching her hand to her chest. My heart broke, but I made sure that she didn't notice.

"Mate?" she asked, shaking her head as if that was a stupid idea. Serenity placed a hand on her forehead and groaned out in pain, almost doubling over from the amount of it. She scrunched up her nose in distaste as the spell ended, and I whined in concern. "I'm fine," she said, opening her eyes and blinking back tears that threatened to fall. "I just..." She shook her head and scowled before looking me in the eyes. "I think I know those eyes..." Again, she shook her head and groaned out in pain, again, this time clutching her head and stomach. "Of course, I don't remember anything."

'She doesn't remember us?' Ceira asked, coming a bit closer to my side. She looked at her Luna with sadness, and I could tell that she didn't like it one bit. Her Wolf and Ceira respected my mate either way, but it sat well with neither her nor me. 'Why not?'

I shrugged my shoulder, not even knowing why she didn't remember us. 'I don't know,' I said, honestly, 'but I think Mom might know.' I watched as she groaned again and whined as if I was in pain with her. I hated seeing that she was in pain and that I had no idea how to help her.

"I am fine," Serenity said, but I could tell that she wasn't. She shook her head and huffed, looking around. "I am lost in this maze of woods. You two don't seem to know where I can find a Sam Price? I had gotten a letter before I moved here that I should see her without my parents." She shook her head and groaned when we didn't answer but look at each other, curious as to why my mother wanted to see her. "Of course not," she groaned, moving a hand through her hair. She had this pained look in her eyes, but she did not tell us why. "You two are just wolves. Big wolves, but wolves nonetheless. You don't even understand English." She shook her head and chuckled coldly. "I'm going crazy," she muttered. "Great. Just great."

I looked at my Beta, my confusion mirroring hers. I was somewhat shocked and hurt that Mom never told me this, but for some reason, I kind of knew why she did it, but I didn't understand why she didn't tell me when I turned eighteen. I was practically an adult, even though I hadn't taken the Alpha position from my dad yet.

'Should we lead her back to the packhouse?' Ceira asked. She stood, and Serenity backed up a step, and my Beta stopped moving towards her. Ceira regarded her with mild curiosity before looking at me. 'I mean, your mother might know why she doesn't know who or what she is.'

I stayed silent, having a feeling that she does. I stood and was about to walk over to her when there was a rustling in the bushes, followed by a loud and ferocious growl. I was about to walk over to my mate to protect her when something jumped out of the bushes, and all I saw was white.

'Mom?' I asked in shock when she stood in front of me. Anger and hurt filled my body as she growled at my mate and looked as if she was going to attack her. 'What are you doing? That i-'

'Go back to the packhouse,' Mom said, interrupting me. She growled again, and Serenity looked at her in fear and backed up a couple of more steps. She watched as Serenity held up her hands as if to say that she did not mean harm, but that did not cause my mother to relax. 'Now.'

I growled out in anger when she said that. My Wolf and I did not like the idea of leaving our mate where our mother could hurt her. A part of me thought that she would hurt her because of how she was acting, but the other part of me knew that she would not do that to me. She had known that Serenity was my mate and how the bond worked. 'N-'

'Do you really think that I will hurt her?' she asked, not looking at me. She curled her lip and took a threatening step forward, and Serenity whimpered in fear. 'She can't remember, not yet.'

I narrowed my eyes at my mother as my mate backed up. I could smell the fear coming off of my mate, and all I wanted to do was attack my mother. I had no idea why I wanted to, but I had a feeling that it was because she threatened my mate. 'Wh-'

'I will only answer your questions at the packhouse in my office. Aenes is there, and we are still waiting on Addama to show up from whatever she is doing. We cannot say a lot because it could change the future and lead to your death or your mates.' She glanced back at me, keeping her other eye on my mate. 'You will know what I know in time and probably more.'

I scoffed and rolled my eyes. I growled and snapped at Ceira when she nudged me.

'Let's go,' Ceira said. 'Like Sam said, she'll tell you when it is time. Remember, there is stuff still being withheld from her, and I am sure it has to do with you.'

I narrowed my eyes at my mother when she took another step forward towards my mate, growling. My whole body was shaking from anger, but I made sure that I kept my cool. 'That doesn't explain why you are growling at my mate,' I growled, baring my teeth at her.

'Office. Now,' she said, putting her command on me. Her voice was hard, and if I hadn't been annoyed and angry, then I would've noticed that she hated doing it. 'Like I said, I will tell you when the time is right. The time isn't right yet.'

I growled and started to walk towards the packhouse, not able to fight the command any longer. 'If you hurt her, I will kill you.' With that, I turned the way to the packhouse and bounded away with Ceira at my heels.
