I flick my cigarette to the ground and put it out with my boot, it was this or alcohol to calm my nerves and I didn't think booze on my breath would look good. I walk up to the door and knock
"Circuit." Skye's Mom greets me coldly as I enter her house
"Mrs Matthews." I reply with a smile
"Skye is just finishing getting ready." She says as I follow her to the kitchen.
"While we're alone you should know, Skye is my everything, she was a miracle after I was told I would never be a mother and I watched her die several times as they fought to bring her back. I am not willing to risk losing her again for some outlaw biker." She says leaning against the counter
"Mrs Matthews I know all about what happened, I care about your daughter a lot and I don't want her in any danger at all, you have to understand I only want to make Skye happy and I would do anything to protect her." I reply
"What's going on?" Skye says as she enters the kitchen and I turn to see her, she's wearing the dress she wore on our first date, when I took her out to the woods, her long blue hair hangs over her shoulders and her converse with red glitter on them on her feet
"You look beautiful." I say as I lean down and kiss her
"You both ready?" I ask looking between Skye and her mom. They both nod and I follow Skye to my car, opening the door for her to move across and then folding up her chair and putting it in the trunk. I open the back door to allow Skye's mom in and close it behind her before hopping in the drivers seat and heading off to the restaurant. I've gone for the same restaurant I was supposed to take Skye to on our first date, the girls said it was a nice place and it had wheelchair access for Skye.
Well this is a fucking disaster, Skye's mom isn't budging at all but I've got to try, for Skye.
"What kind of name is Circuit anyway, do you even know his real name?" Her mom asks Skye
"My name is Joseph and growing up in group homes everyone called me Joey, but I prefer my nickname Circuit because it was given to me by my club, the first family I have been a part of." I reply and I see Skye looking down
"You have to understand my club isn't just a bunch of outlaws committing crimes and riding motorcycles, we're more than that." I say leaving out the part about us running illegal weapons or the number of people we've killed over the years
"My presidents wife Cordelia is a nurse and she has opened a clinic for people with no insurance who can't afford a hospital. She's always trying to help people and the club often help out too, where we can, I'm sure you saw the charity ride we do every summer to raise money for a nominated charity. And if that isn't enough to prove I'm a good guy Old lady Walters is 92 and drives a car that she refuses to get rid of even if it breaks down daily and she said I'm a lovely boy, she even gives me candy." I say trying to lighten the mood and Skye laughs
"I have to use the ladies room." Her mom says as she gets up and walks away
"I am so sorry, she is being a complete douche canoe." Skye says as she takes my hand and I laugh as I intertwine our fingers.
The meal ends and we head back to Skye's house, I think her mom is starting to warm to me, like a frozen burrito in a broken microwave. Between my affection for Skye and the pity party that is my childhood I think I chipped some ice off her heart though. I get out of the car and open her moms door
"I'll see you tomorrow mom." Skye shouts before I close the door
"Hmm, you look after my daughter Circuit, I mean it." She says as she pokes my chest and then walks off towards the house
"I'm that irresistible you want another sleep over huh?" I say as I get back in the car
"Well I think you deserve something for how shitty tonight was." Skye says as she runs one finger up my thigh
"Well it's early, how about I take you somewhere first? But then you're all mine and clothes are illegal." I say pointing to her sternly as I start the engine
"Yes sir." She salutes as I drive off.
"Put me down!! You're lucky I can't get my gun or I will make you eat a bullet you mother fucker!!" Scar screams over the loud music as Knuckles carries her over his shoulder towards the back and a prospect kicks some guy out of the door behind us
"Well this is Scars nightclub." I say to Skye as we head for the bar
"Skye!" Indigo shouts from behind the bar. It took a lot of work but Indigo does one shift a week here to help build her confidence, she has bad anxiety and sometimes struggles when the place is packed, but she feels safe behind the bar. Skye wheels over to the end of the bar and Indigo lifts up the top
"What can I get you?" She asks as she hands me a beer
"Beer is fine" Skye replies and Indigo grabs another for her
"What just happened?" I ask Indigo
"A customer tried to grope Daisy and when Scar got involved he said something about what her lips would be good for and she lost it. I love that girl!" Indigo says and we all laugh, Scar has a pretty deadly temper.
"The guys are all over there." Indigo points over to a booth with Bullet, Socket, Sonny, Ice, Needles and Ace. We head over and I take a seat with the guys who all greet Skye
"Hey guys!" Skye waves. I look up and see Knuckles coming from the back buckling his belt and Scar fixing her hair on the bar and laugh
"What? I'm only happy to do it if it's the only way to calm her down." Knuckles laughs as he sits down with us. The night carries on with laughter and drinking but when I look at Skye she looks like she's seen a ghost
"You alright Skye?" I ask and she nods
"Need to use the ladies room, I'll be back." She says as she wheels off towards the bathrooms. I catch up with the guys for a while until I look up and see two guys leaning over Skye, I immediately jump to my feet and make my way to her.
"There a problem here?" I ask as Skye looks up at me
"Nah man, just catching up with an old friend." One of them says, a smirk on his face
"Remember what we said." The other growls as they throw back their drinks and then head out of the club
"Are you ok?" I question as I kneel before Skye
"Yeah, I'm fine, just need a drink." She says as she turns and wheels to the bar.
