Chapter 30 - Circuit

I'll admit, I'm pretty fucking wasted, but it's doing nothing for the pain I feel thinking I could lose her, them. I could be a dad, me? The kid who had no one, no one ever wanted, who was warned if he carried on he'd have no life, stealing cars and hacking federal computers. Now I could have the girl and the family or I could lose it all.

Killer has called church but I'm in no place to listen, I remain slumped on the floor in the corner of the room, a cigarette between my lips and an almost empty bottle in my hand

"The Kearney brothers are gone as are the two little fuckers that were helping them, Dominic was already dead when we got there, I guess we won't know what happened there until Skye wakes up and fills in the blanks. The two men were Skye's father and a cop called Gary Gibson. Sheriff Johnson informs me they are both stable in hospital and that his boys are at a dead loss as to what happened to them." He smirks. None of us like the law but Cordelia helping the sheriffs wife with a fundraiser for kids has brought us many favours.

"Sorry babe, Circuit?" Cordelia stands in the doorway

"Is she alright?" I stumble as I try to stand and I find Bullet at my side to help me to the door

"She's stable, she lost a lot of blood, I've stopped the bleeding now, it's a waiting game now but I'm almost certain she's going to make it." She says and I let go of the breath I was holding.

"Come on I'll help you to her." She says as she wraps her arm around my waist and guides me to the infirmary.

Cordelia helps me into a chair beside Skye and I take her cold hand in mine. She looks so pale lying in this bed, dried blood still on her skin, her jaw is swollen with dried blood on her lips and her eyes are bruised a deep purple from where they must've beaten her.

"She took a good beating, she's got a broken rib too. I've stitched up the wounds on her thigh, I've got her on another unit of blood, hopefully she'll wake up soon, but we just need to wait now." Cordelia says with her hand on my shoulder

"The baby?" I question

"Well, the baby is still there, I don't see any abnormalities but I won't know if it has a heartbeat yet, so we'll have to check that in a few days, maybe a week, depending how far along she is." Cordelia replies

"How did this even happen? I mean she was on the pill." Not that I don't want to be a dad, I do, I just, maybe in a few years, when Skye finished college, I married her and then bought her that house I dreamed of.

"When she got shot I put her on antibiotics, they can stop the pill from working. Were you two listening when I said that or were you too busy kissing her?" Cordelia smirks

"I'm gonna have to sit the boys down and the club whores and go through the safe sex talk again." She laughs

"Cat should wake up soon, I'll talk to her, explain what's going on, but she'll probably want to see Skye too, is that ok?" She asks and I nod

"She can sit with me while we wait for her to wake up." I say as I stroke Skye's knuckles with my thumb, she's so cold and pale, I hate it. Where's the sarcastic asshole that I fell in love with? I want her back. I pull the blanket higher over Skye to keep her warm

"Do you want me to tell her about the baby?" She asks from the doorway

"No, I'll tell her." I reply and she nods before leaving.

"Circuit? Oh my god!" Cat cries as she comes up beside me and looks down at Skye.

"Cordelia said you saved her." She says as she wraps her arms around me

"Thank you." She whispers

"I'm sorry this happened in the first place I should've protected her from them." I say as I hug her back

"The important thing is you got her back, she's a fighter Circuit, she's going to be ok." She assures me

"There's something Cordelia didn't tell you." I say and she steps back to look down at me

"What is it?" She says looking from me to Skye

"She's pregnant." The shock written on her face doesn't begin to cover how shocked I felt when Cordelia told me this morning.

"Is it..?" She questions still looking at Skye

"It's too early to tell, Cordelia said we can only wait." I reply

"Well if that baby is half the fighter it's parents are it'll be fine." She says firmly before pulling up a chair and sitting down beside me.

"You smell like a brewery." Cat laughs from beside me

"Well I thought I was going to lose the woman I love." I shrug and she takes my hand in hers

"I'll be honest Circuit, I still wasn't sure how I felt about you and Skye, but I see how much you love her and I'm so happy she has that."

"I love her more than anything, I just want her to be safe and happy Cat, I mean it and if this baby is ok I'm gonna love them both, for the rest of my life." I say as I squeeze her hand gently

"Go take a shower, I'll sit with her, if she wakes up and smells you she won't want you anywhere near her." She says and I laugh

"Ok, but if she wakes up you better come and get me." I reply as I stand up and head for our room.
