[present time]
Ever since she became a single mother, Kaycee had only thought of private lessons because it was easier to managed her time, and now she was going to teach again in a real class to lots of people and she couldn't be more excited.
She set everything in place for the day, hired the babysitter in advance, and left everything ready for when she needed to be away. She even started an exercise with Jia to help her not to freak out without Kaycee — she would leave the baby with her mother for a short amount of time and then she would be back, trying to show her daughter that no matter what, she would always come back.
So when the day came she was more than ready — but as the universe couldn't be that kind to her, all her preparation went down the hill with one phone call from the babysitter saying that she wouldn't be able to take care of Jia because she was sick.
Kaycee then tried everything and everyone in the book but neither her family nor her friends could watch Jia for her to teach the class so she buckled her in the baby's car seat and took the baby with her to the studio.
As she walked inside the room there was already some students there and Bailey, who was assisting her, was in the corner by the computer along with Sean — a quick recap of what happened after that night in her house: Jia fell asleep in Sean's arms and they put her down, things got awkward as if they had forgotten how to behave around each other, then he decided that he should probably go home because he had a meeting in the morning, so he did and that was it.
They didn't see or talked to each other after that, and it has been four days ever since.
"What she's doing here?" Bailey asked getting the baby from Kaycee's arms as the mother struggled to hold her daughter, some stuffed animals, and the diaper bag — Sean helped her too and she mouthed a thank you for him, which he answered with a kind smile.
Kaycee sighed as her arms were free. "The babysitter got sick and I couldn't find anyone to be with her so..."
"And you are gonna keep her here for the entire class? it's a mega class, sis." Said Bailey as the little girl laughed and played with the dancer's short hair. "like, she's gonna want to eat and crawl around everyone dancing, I can't have people stepping in the love of my life."
"I know but she's eleven months, I can't just leave her at home." She ran her fingers through her hair, taking a deep breath. "Don't worry, I'm gonna make it work... somehow."
And that was when he first spoke. "I can watch her."
Both Bailey and Kaycee looked at him, allowing him to keep talking. "My class only starts half an hour after yours anyway so I can stay with her in room 2 as you teach, I can check with Tim but I think it's empty now."
"You're a lifesaver!" Said Bailey giving Jia back to Kaycee. "Go set them and I will start the warm-up for you as people start to get here." Then she went back to the computer.
"Great that she already said yes to me." They laughed. "Are you sure? I don't wanna bo..."
"Don't even finish that sentence, Rice... come on." He called taking Jia's things with him as they walked out of the studio she was teaching to the room in the front.
Kaycee walked around the room for a few seconds, without even noticing that she was inspecting the place until he laughed. "Is it baby safe?"
She chuckled rolling her eyes as he sat her daughter's things on the floor. "Are you sure you can do this?"
"Don't worry about it, we're gonna be just fine, right little one?" He said giving his arms to hold the baby and to Kaycee's surprise, Jia jumped right into it — her daughter had never been someone to go with strangers and she had only been with Sean once up until now, so the man should feel like a stranger to her.
