My immediate thought when I first hopped off the plane was SUN. In England we hardly ever get sun. But I liked it that way. I absoloutely hated summer. All the girls with model figures would rip out their denim shorts and crop tops. I never had the confidence to wear stuff like that. I prefered my skinny jeans and band tees.
I was one of those girls that was in love with nature. I loved the rain. Everytime it rained I would go outside and run around the back garden.
I stopped whatever I was doing when I heard birds sing. They're just too beautiful.
As we went to go collect our suitcases from baggage, I released my long thick hair from it's messy bun and let it hang just above my waist. Because mom was taking so long, I decided to whip out my phone to check my social media accounts.
I saw loads of posts on Facebook from my family for me saying goodbye.
I quickly posted some reply's before my mom and brother finally came up to me. 'Come on. Our taxi's waiting outside' mom quickly said before taking the lead.
The journey to our new home seemed to last forever. But when we finally got there it seemed worth it. This house was so much bigger than our one back home in England.
The neighbourhood seemed nice enough. There were a few fars parked outside houses but apart from that the road seemed to be pretty much empty.
The first thing I did when I walked through the house to check out my bedroom. "First room on the right!" I heard my mom shout.
I saw it and walked inside. This room was way bigger than my one back home. At least there's one thing I like so far. I walked around my oom and opened a door leading into an en suite bathroom. WOW. My own bathroom?! Could this get any better?
I walked back out from the bathroom and looked out the window of my bedroom. My room was at the side of the house so ut made sense that I could see the side of the next door neighbour's house. My window was directly opposite one of the bedrooms in their house.
Though their window I could make out a boy sitting on his bed listening to music through headphones. He looked about my age. A few seconds later a boy that looked almost EXACTLY like him walked into the room and sat down in front of the window, blocking my view into the room.
"EM!" I heard my brother shout from the bottom of the stairs.
"WHAT?!" I screamed back at him. He always annoyed me. Sometimes I wonder what it's like to have a normal brother.
"Mom said you have to start helping unload the moving van and then start unpacking and getting your room sorted." I heard Joe say as he came in my room. "WHOA. Your room is so much bigger than mine! Not fair!"
"That's because I'm older. And why do I have to start unpacking straight away? We just got here. I wanna get some rest"
"Well mom says you have to at least help unpack because we have to unload all the vans today. Besides, it's 10:30 in the morning. Why go to sleep when you can explore our new neighbourhood. I think mom wants us to go and meet our new neighbours. The Brooks. Apparently mom's friends with Gina. She has three boys around our age."
"I'm definitely not leaving the house today. I'm way too tired"
"You slept the whole flight how is that possible. Look, just help unpack and then you're free to do whatever you want. Deal?"
"K fine whatever." I didn't like my brother but sometimes he's the only one who really gets me.
----------------------------------------------------------
It was around 5pm now and I was absoloutely exhausted. So far, I'd helped mom put all the furniture in the living room and we'd moved the table into the kitchen. We put some plates and stuff in the cabinets so we had stuff to eat off of.
Mom had ordered some pizza seeing as we had no food in the fridge yet. After that, I decided I would at least start putting wome stuff in my room.
I stared at the boxes covering my bedroom floor, deciding where to start. My eyes scanned my room and stopped at
the window. The same boy I saw earlier had just entered his room. He turned his face so I got a quick glance of his face.
WOW. He was good looking alright. Wait. Is he Gina's son? He probably isn't.My luck isn't good when it comes to stuff like that. Especially friends. I only really had one friend back home in England. Everyone else just seemed to bully me.
Chloe was the only one I'd ever really opened up to about stuff I'd kept locked in all these years. She was the only one who knew about my scars and why they were there. But I decided that this whole thing about moving to Melbourne was an opportunity to start fresh and forget about how miserable school was back home.
"You ok Em?" I turned around and saw my mom come in.
"Yh, I just thought I would start putting stuff in my bedroom"
"Oh ok. Well it's time for bed now so see you in the morning. Night" Mom said closing my door.
I grabbed my toiletry bag and walked into the bathroom. First, I started to wipe off my makeup. God I hated how I looked without makeup. I brushed my teeth and walked back into my room.
I quickly unlocked my phone and tweeted.
"@Emily_Jones: First day in Melbourne was good enough. I'm really loving my new house <3"
I put my phone on charge and turned out the lights.
