Oh my God. I recently figured out that I'm a mutant. I figured it out because I controlled Mr. Brown at WalMart once. I tried it on some stranger once, but it didn't work. I think I have to know them personally. I didn't want to tell my parents because I knew they'd send me off to a boarding school or something. I was like everyone else in my family. An accident. I wasn't supposed to happen. But my dad still loved me anyway. When he died, my mother married this cruel, insane, abusive man. He hated me.

I lived with two other people besides my parents but I think he hated me the most. He hit me every night. I couldn't tell anyone at school because I knew he'd kill me. My best friend, Gracie, was the only person I told. She was the person I could go to for anything. I would miss her dearly. She's the only reason I'm still alive.

After my parents went to sleep, I crept out the back door as quietly as possible. I took out my crappy-ass phone and looked for a nearby gas station. I suddenly heard a voice from above say, "If you can hear this, you're a mutant. Relocate to-" then it cut off. My brows furrowed but I kept walking along the sidewalk.

About ten minutes later, I heard it again. This time, though, it told me an address. I searched it up on my phone. It told me it was a trailer park not to far from where I live. I decided I'd go there. I have nowhere to go anyways. I started walking in that direction.

I was getting a little hungry so I took a stop at a gas station. I saw a girl there, redhead with brown eyes. She looked about my age, sixteen. She was shoplifting but I didn't think much of it. What I was wondering was, why would she be here without any adults at ten o'clock at night? Kind of odd if you ask me.

I paid for my things, I had just enough for it. I went out and started walking when I saw a flash of red fly by me. I looked over and it was the girl again! Why was she here anyway? Could she be a mutant too? No. Charlotte don't get in over your head. She could be homeless or something? I didn't know. I just kept walking in the direction of the trailer park.

When I finally arrived at the trailer park, I saw nothing but a patch of trees. I heard a rustling in the bushes. I froze. What the hell was that? I thought. An animal? Was it the girl? There was a shout, "Who are you?!" It was a woman's voice. I hesitated to say, "Ch-Charlotte Brooks." Then I said, "I'm a mutant." The trees parted as if they moved themselves. I screamed, "Who are you?!" The woman I saw was tall and blonde with green eyes.

"Shh, calm down. I'm Samantha." She came towards me and I flinched. "You're safe now." I hesitantly took a few steps forward. Then shifted into a slow stride up to her.
