Cameron Frye
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Warning: Abuse Suggested"Talk to me Cameron."
"What's to talk about?"
"Don't start with me. Get back here." I reached out, grabbing the handle on his backpack. I tried to pull him back, but he just shrugged his shoulder, letting his bag fall to the ground. He shoved his hands in his pockets and continued weaving through the halls. I huffed, and went after him. He looked at me over his shoulder, then darted into the boys bathroom. I frowned, standing outside of it, and leaning on a wall. Ferris walked out, and looked at me, "Oh, hey. What're you doing around these parts?"
"Waiting for someone."
"Cameron? Yeah I don't think he'll be coming out anytime soon." Sloane walked by, and Ferris wished me luck before slithering to her side dutifully. I let out a huff, crossing my arms. The bell rang, and students scattered, and the halls were empty. A teacher walked by, narrowing her eyes at me, "Shouldn't you be in class?"
I sniffed, "Didn't know you were a smoker. Shouldn't you be in class?"
The teacher blushed, then made her way down the hall. After she turned the corner, I entered the boys bathroom, making sure I wasn't seen. I put Cameron's bag in the corner, and put mine on top of it, not wanting it to touch the floor. I looked around for Cameron, not seeing him, but seeing a stall door closed. I looked under, and saw no shoes. I frowned, leaning against the stall door and sighing, "Cameron, I know you're in there."
"Great."
"Open the door."
"No."
"Cameron. Open the door."
"No."
"Open it right now or I swear to God, I'll-"
"You'll what?"
I felt my face flush, "I don't know Cameron! I just want to take care of you, now open the door!"
I heard the small lock release, and I slid inside the stall, locking the door back behind me. The toiler seat was down, and Cameron sat, hugging his knees to his chest and burying his face in his elbow. I stood at his side, moving his hair from his forehead, and speaking softly, "What's been the matter with you lately? Hm...? You haven't been yourself..."
He sniffed, and moved his head to look at me. He rested his chin in his elbow, his sad, watery blue eyes catching my gaze. I felt my heart break, and I kept the eye contact. He sniffed, "I-It's just my parents."
Of course it was. It always was. I sighed, wrapping an arm around his shoulders, "What happened this time?"
"My dad found out that... that I had you over."
I bit on my lower lip. Whether it was from rising anger or sympathy, I wasn't sure. "What did he do, Cameron?"
He put his feet on the ground, and turned a little away from me. He raised his shirt, not taking it off, but rising it to his shoulder blades. Guess his father was friends with his belt. There were purple welts splayed across either side of his back. I released a breath and he pulled his shirt back down, hugging his knees to his chest again. I looked to him, "When did he do that...?"
"Three days ago."
He really must have hit him hard for the wounds to look that fresh. I felt more angry than I ever had in my life, but I knew that an outburst wouldn't be helpful right now. I looked to Cameron, "You're staying at my house for a while. You don't get a say. After school we'll take my car, and stop by your place. Pack clothes, hairbrush, toothbrush, whatever you need. I'll take you out to a diner, and back in my room, I'll blow up an air mattress for you. My parents like you enough, so they won't mind."
He looked surprised, and blushed a little, "I couldn't do that... If my parents found out-"
"So what if they find out? You've been under their thumb for too long, Cameron. If they want to get to you, they'll have to get through me, got it?"
He put his feet on the ground again, putting his hands between his thighs anxiously, "Why are you doing this for me?"
"I like you. I have for a long time, alright? Ever since Ferris introduced us in our freshman year, I knew that I liked you. When you asked about our futures... I have no plan, but I know that I'd like to spend some of it with you."
He kept his eyes on mine, as if expecting me to tell him that I was just kidding. When I didn't, he smiled a little, "You're serious?"
"Serious enough to skip French to sneak into a boys bathroom."
He sniffed again, sighing and looking at his lap, "Still, I don't know... what if your parents change their mind?"
"They won't. Remember when you, Sloane and Ferris all stayed the night, and they couldn't sleep? They hated the not sleeping part, but they said that they, especially you, are the kind of people I should hang out with more. We can't let them down, can we?"
He chuckled, "Yeah, I guess not."
