Last Night

Chapter 15

It's a quiet evening spent cuddling on the couch, Lena's already feeling better. "I'm so glad you're safe." Kara says, kissing Lena's Forehead. "I was so worried when I woke up and you were gone..."
"I'm never going anywhere ever again. I'll never leave you."
"Please never do." Kara pulls out the ring that's been transferred from pocket to pocket for some time now, waiting patiently for the right moment. "Will you stay with me forever?"
Lena nods, happy tears lining her eyes. "Forever." She pulls Kara into a kiss, neither one can stop smiling.
Kara slips the ring on Lena's shaking finger, and though she couldn't be happier, there's a kernel of fear and doubt.
"You're not just doing this because of what happened right?" Lena asks quietly.
"No. I've had this ring since before that." Kara says, holding Lena tighter and pressing a kiss to her forehead. "Actually, there's one thing that happened while you were in the hospital that I didn't tell you about.." Kara says with a little laugh.
"What?" She asks, looking up at Kara with complete adoration, her worst fears now forgotten.
"Well the nurse wouldn't let me see you because I wasn't family, so I made a bit of a scene about being your girlfriend and the only family you had," Lena laughs, "so then she says something like 'girlfriend isn't family' so I put my hand in my pocket, and this ring's in there," she picks up Lena's left hand and squeezes it, "and I go 'did I say girlfriend?' And then I throw in something about how I still can't believe it's real, and I pull my hand out of my pocket and go, 'I meant fiancée.' So she lets me in and the first thing I said to you was 'I just lied to a nurse! Well I hope it won't be a lie for much longer'."
"You're such a dork." Once again Lena can't stop smiling. "I love you." She kisses Kara before she can respond, but they're both grinning which is making it hard to continue.
