Yun Hae stepped out of the car, took a quick look around and got right back in.
The Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Arena was bursting at the seams. According to the news, BTS will be performing to a sold-out concert. She could hear the fans chanting.
KIM NAM JOON. KIM SEOKJIN. MIN YOONGI. JUNG HOSEOK. PARK JIMIN. KIM TAEHYUNG. JEON JUNGKOOK. BTS!!!!
"Nuh-uh," Min-Ah pulled her back out. "Don't chicken out on Jimin now," she teased. "And besides, you look hot. Let's not waste such a good outfit, yes?"
Yun Hae ran a hand through her hair self-consciously. At Min-Ah's insistence, she wore thigh-high boots paired with short shorts and an over-sized leather jacket over an old grungy Beatles t-shirt. Not her usual look but Min-Ah talked her into it.
If Yun Hae had her way, she'd swap the boots for a pair of rubber trainers. She tied her hair up in a high ponytail while Min-Ah took some time doing her make-up, making sure it was HD-ready, whatever that means.
"We're in the VIP section and we have to be camera ready no matter what," Min-Ah declared as she applied eyeliner on Yun Hae's eyes, making it appear more doe-like.
"This is not me, Min-Ah," she complained but liked what she saw. The woman staring back at her looked fun and ready for anything. She decided she liked this look on her but she wasn't telling Min-Ah that.
"C'mon, Yun Hae," Min-Ah half dragged a wobbly Yun Hae. These boots were beautiful on paper but were an absolute hell to use. At least they made her legs look a mile long.
They entered the arena and was greeted with throngs of fans waiting to be let in. "We have to go find our seats. I wonder how we're going to do that. There must already be a thousand people lining up." Min-Ah couldn't hide the disappointment in her voice.
"Ms. Soo Yun Hae?" A staff holding a clipboard approached them. He was talking into a handheld two-way radio, "Yes, she's here. Yes, I'm taking them to their seats now."
"That's me," Yun Hae raised her hand feebly, wondering why the staff knew her name or recognized her. Min-Ah squealed as Yun Hae tightened her grip. "Chill," she whispered.
"Follow me, please." The staff led the way with Yun Hae and Min-ah following suit. Yun Hae saw a few jealous glances as they made their way past the crowd. "How lucky." She heard a fan say longingly. Yun Hae lowered her head and tried to walk as quickly as she could. She stole a glance at Min-Ah and saw her friend doing the same.
Yun Hae gasped as soon as they entered the performance area. She imagined a sea of fans waving their army bombs, light sticks glowing in the dark. She wondered how it would look from the boys' perspective.
I bet it looks amazing from up there. The staff led them to a raised platform beside the pit. He handed them water bottles as they took their seats. "The boys are going to appear from under there," he explained, pointing to an area in the middle of the stage.
"So close, Yun Hae," Min-Ah said. "I can almost reach the stage."
Yun Hae nodded. She gulped nervously, their seats were dangerously close to the stage. She wasn't prepared to be this close to Jimin. Not in the confused state she was in. She was sure he would be able to hear the thunder in her heart. What are you up to, pabo?
"The boys are going to do a quick sound check right about now," said the staff. Yun Hae turned to him, "I'm sorry, I didn't catch that ---," but the staff left before she could finish.
"Yun Hae! Yun Hae!" Min-Ah was pulling on her jacket. "Look..." her eyes followed Min-Ah's line of sight and almost fell off her chair.
Sauntering towards her, his hair billowing in an imaginary wind that seemed to follow him everywhere, was Park Jimin.
