It was the day of the MAMAs. All your hard work had been leading up to this. The sleepless nights, the strained vocal chords, the time away from your family, all of it was to bring you to this day. You were finally going to perform on the biggest stage in Korea and prove to everyone that you were not a novelty. Dress rehearsal had gone wonderfully, everyone hit their marks and your voice felt stronger than usual. All that was left was to go to the salon and then visit your stylist to get dressed back at JYP headquarters before hitting the red carpet. On the way there, in the van with the other girls, you texted Jungkook.

Y/N: I'm starting to get really nervous.
Jungkook: Don't be. You're going to kill it.
Y/N: I wish I could see you before the show.
Jungkook: Me too. But we're under lock and key all day.
Y/N: Us too. I'm on the way to hair and makeup, now.
Jungkook: Send me a pic! I have to run. Interviews. But I'll see you at the show, ok?
Y/N: Okay. Wish me luck
Jungkook: You don't need it ;) TTYL

"Who are you texting so much?" Rae-shi asked with a scowl.

"My family." you lied "They wanted to wish us luck."

"I'm sorry they can't be here, Y/N." YeYe said sincerely.

"My family is coming." Rin butted in "All of them. They can't wait to cheer me on."

"Mine too." Rae-shi replied "They're actually at HQ now."

You listen quietly as the two girls droned on and on, unsympathetic to your growing feeling of anxiety and isolation. You had spoken to your family, that was true. You parents had called you when you woke up that morning to wish you luck and let you know they would be watching online. It was nice to hear their voices but, today more than ever, you wanted to have them put their arms around you and reassure you that you were okay. You actively forced yourself to remain emotionless just so you wouldn't start to cry.

Two hours later, your hair had been styled and meticulously pinned on top of your head, and your makeup was done impeccably. When you got to the dressing rooms you found that YeYe and Rae-shi were assigned to one dressing room, you and Rin to another. Not surprisingly, Rin requested to be moved to the dressing room with the other two girls, leaving you to get dressed alone. That seemed to be the theme, you were always the odd man out.

Normally, given your station within the group, you were dressed in clothing that would be considered somewhat juvenile. High necklines, nothing above your knee, in plain fabrics with little to no flair at all. That was not the case, tonight. When you finally laid eyes on the evening dress that had picked for you, you felt your heart jump. It was an ice blue, strapless, floor-length gown with a corset bodice and trumpet skirt. Ornate beading covered the whole gown top to bottom making it seem to come alive when the light bounced off of it.

"Upper management insisted you wear this, tonight." the stylist said as she carefully removed it from the hanger. "Do you like it?"

"I love it." you whispered as she helped you into the heavy, yet exquisite, dress. She taped and pulled and tucked in all the right places and when she was done, she turned you toward the mirror so you could see yourself. You gasped when you saw the image staring back at you. It was the first time, in a very long time, that you truly felt beautiful.

Alone, in the dressing room, you snapped a quick picture and sent it to Jungkook like he'd asked. You got no reply. You texted him twice more, feeling more and more unsettled by the minute. Still, no reply. All the beautiful gowns in Seoul couldn't make up for the fact that you were scared, you were lonely, and you just needed a touchstone to bring you back to center. You smoothed your hands across your midsection, in an attempt to calm your nerves, when you heard a whistle behind you.
