My eyes opened to an endless void of black that seemed to go on forever.
I was still wearing my clothes and I didn't feel any pain on my body.

I blinked once and looked forward.

In front of me, a massive golden-scaled dragon stood in front of me.
I felt his burning yellow eyes piercing into me. He seemed to be observing, watching, waiting. But waiting for what?
I could only imagine.

Then it spoke.

I only offer my power to the strong. You are not ready.

I slowly opened my eyes.

I was in the medical room laying on a bed. When I tried to move, pain coursed through my body. I tried looking at my surroundings.

I noticed a figure sitting on a chair in front of me.

"I worry for you, Kalin"
Her face was drowned in sadness. "I'm sorry"
"Tell that to Alamar"
My eyes went wide.
"Is he OK?"
She sighed,"you caused him a large amount of damage to his ribs and chest. Luckily we have the most skilled healers in the land."

"Where is he now?"

She looked at me, "He's resting in a guest room."

I tried to get up but my sister stopped me. Her hand pushed my chest onto the bed.
"It would not be wise to go considering you were the one who caused him damage to his body."
"What about our mission? Are we still going?"

"While you were resting, the generals and I have decided to leave for the mission as soon as you and Alamar are fully healed. Until then you will not be training or going on any missions."

I stopped struggling, feeling defeated.
"You're right. You always are."

She smiled lightly before removing her hand from my chest and leaving towards the door. "Sometimes, I wish I wasn't."
She walked out. A guard closed the door behind her.

I turned on my side. I thought about what happened in the battle. Then, I drifted off into a deep sleep once again.

I was in the dark void again.

I looked around. Nothing.

Then I felt a burning sensation on my feet. I looked down to find Golden flames burning at my feet.

I screamed in pain, but I knew nobody would hear me.

The fire burned up to my waist, consuming everything in its path.

I screamed for help.

'I see you need assistance. Very well. I shall give you a small percentage of my power. Master it and I will grant you larger levels of power.'

And suddenly the golden flames extinguished.  I didn't feel pain anymore. But I felt power coursing through my veins.

'Master it and only then will you be ready'
