CHAPTER TEN

When we got back to my house Ryan and I were alone, I sat on my couch and took out my sword. "Being a powerful leader and a great leader are two different things," I murmured "what?," asked Ryan, I guess he didn't realize that it was a old Cattra verse, "a great leader wants change, and a powerful leader is afraid of it, in Darkhbra they're powerful, they are afraid of us, as a Cattra we will be a great leader and not a powerful one, we will not become the thing we despise, I'm a Cattra warrior and I'm proud to say that loud and proud," I sighed "I feel better." "What was it?," Ryan asked "you've never heard-of course you've never heard it, it's our family verse, we say it whenever we are all together, or at a wedding or something special like that, I say it when I'm upset," I stopped and thought "why are you upset?," "I'm upset 'cause I have a feeling Richard is a spy," "a spy?," Ryan exclaimed. "yes, a spy from the Darkhbra, Richard has hated me since grade seven when I beat him in his fencing winning strike, and he swore to get back at me," I stopped. Ryan was looking concerned and his one eyebrow was raised. "I know where he trains, I can take you there," "really?," I gasped "yeah, he asked me once to train with him, I knew he didn't like you, so I agreed for one reason, to find out where he trained." "Awesome, lets go," I replied we quickly walked out started to walk and bused to Richards training ring, we crept around bushes in circled the ring. I was more stealth then Ryan, and when we heard footsteps we crouched, Richard came in, and Jordi followed. I growled Ryan's hand was pressed against my shoulder "any new info on Firewolf?," Jordi asked. "Not really, except JoJo joined," Richard replied "does Firestar have any clue?," Jordi asked "not at all," Richard seemed pleased with himself, I slid my sword out. "How's Kate going?," Jordi asked "fantastic! I'll ask her to join us when I've trained her more," Richard smiled lovingly "do you think Kate will? Or is she to loyal to Firestar and that goof of a deputy," Jordi laughed, Ryan growled a bit, "so, when will we tell her, that Eric has all her basic warrior info, I wish you were deputy, it would make this easier." "I know, I could almost taste it, and then she picked Ryan." While they were talking I slid my sword out and rose an inch or two, Ryan's hand grasped my shoulder tightly, "we need a plan," Jordi replied "um, a fight?," Richard asked shakily, "yeah! Eric can 'capture' you and you can say you had to tell him everything or he would kill you! It'll work, won't it?," Richard opened his mouth but before he could speak Ryan let go if my shoulder and I jumped up "I knew it," I growled "you were a Darkhbra spy!," "how'd you know where we trained?," Jordi asked shocked "I'm a leader of a clan, I can get what I want to know," I turned to Richard, "you." I glared at him "I trusted you, you were going to become a senior warrior!-," Jordi cut me off "a senior warrior? Not a big honour!," "it is, for my clan, you got to work hard to be one! I only have one! You Richard, will not be apart of my clan any longer," I walked a bit closer to Richard, my sword in my hand, raised a little bit. "Kate will get a new mentor," I started to growl now, my voice was threatening "I will have look outs on watch, and if they see you while we're training they have permission to chase you off!," Jordi ran up to me and swung his sword, I hit it in the air "if you fight me here your on your turf, I didn't start this, and I don't want your ego to drop," Jordi lowered his sword "fine, now leave," Jordi growled "I will, I'm watching for you," I glanced at Richard once more and stalked out, Ryan followed me unseen. Once we were outside I swung my arms around Ryan, "I lost a warrior," "don't worry, he wasn't a good warrior anyways, Kate can have a better mentor." Ryan whispered "I know, c'mon lets go," Ryan grabbed my hand and we walked together
I was in English and Ryan sat next to me, the announcements came on, "good morning Warrior Middle School! There is no birthdays today, members of Firewolf meet after school, thank you and have a great day." Ryan rose one eyebrow, I shrugged and he nodded.
After a long day at school finally the end bell rang and I walked quickly to the training ring, I sighed, all day I saw Richard, though the halls, at break, lunch, he even had to come into my math class at one point to give my math teacher something. I walked into the training ring and everyone was looking at me funny, "you all are wondering-," "Richards not here!,"Kate interrupted "silence! Now, I know Richard is not here, he is a spy-," "no he's not!," Kate shouted again. "Enough! Silence!," I spat, Kate shrank back from my snap "he is a Darkhbra spy, and I will have look outs for him, now Kate I'll discuss your punishment later for interrupting me and denying my word, but now I think I know who your new mentor will be, I think Emma." "me?," Emma gasped "yes you, your brother is an excellent fighter if I did not know better I would think he was a-," I looked on Emmet's neck and on it was a crest, the WaWe crest, it was a orca whale with a ring of water, and waves on the bottom. "Never mind, but I know you can train her well, make me proud," "thank you Firestar I will make you proud and not disappoint you," Emma walked up to Kate, they touched hands and Kate looked scared at me, I raised my head and Kate replied "what is my punishment?," "Ryan and I will discuss that and let you know soon," "okay," and they all left "what's her punishment?," Ryan asked "nothing too harsh, I already know what it is, I didn't want to tell her in front of the clan," "okay then, lets get outta here."
As I walked into the clearing I saw Jesse and Ryan talking,, Jesse made a hand movement of some sort and Ryan made an angry movement towards him "hello," I smiled walking in between them "gotta go," Jesse coughed and turned and walked away "what's up with him?," I asked "being nosy," Ryan replied "okay, go practice, I have someone to talk to," I turned and walked up to Kate, "hello Firestar," Kate replied "hello, Kate I understand that I told apprentices and mentors to have a close bond," Kate opened her mouth, I thew her a glare and she shut it again, "and I know that believing your mentor is a spy is also challenging, but I think you had a bond, more meant for, dating. It's okay to be attracted to your mentor but it can't get in the way of your training, so you have to pick, Richard, or us, you can't have a foot in two worlds." Kate looked shocked at me, she turned her head, met eye contact with Emma, and looked at Jesse with Johnny, and Anthony with Mouse, she had a deep sigh "I chose to stay, be an apprentice in Firewolf, a relationship is a temporary thing, a clan however is a lifetime thing, okay what's my punishment," Kate replied "that was your punishment, having to choose, I had to know where your loyalties lay, but lookouts will tell me if they see you together, understood?," "yes," and Kate walked over to Emma. "Oh, what's this? Is this Firewolf?," two boys stood in the entrance "hello?," I replied the two boys smiled.
