It was Sunday, exactly a week since Liana was kidnapped. For the first time in so many days, she felt truly happy. She was finally going back home to her loved ones. She didn't have to suffer any more than she already had.
RK came to the basement in the afternoon when Liana had lost all hope of freedom. He put a chair in front of Liana's and sat on it.
"Did your boss change his mind?" She asked. "Don't tell me he went back on his word again."
Liana had always known she couldn't trust RK and his mysterious boss but was willing to take the risk. What else could go wrong?
"No," he said, shaking his head. "You're going to be free today but I have to make some things clear to you. You have to do everything I tell you because if you don't, things won't go well."
"How many times do I have to tell you that I'll do whatever you want," she said. "I just want my freedom. You can trust me completely because I'll not let you down. Unlike you, I don't break my promises."
"Here's a disposable phone that you'll use to communicate with us. Make sure to pick all our calls and don't tell anyone about this."
"Got it," Liana nodded excitedly. Her smile faded when she looked at Hellen. She was going to fight for Hellen's freedom when she got out but couldn't say anything in RK's presence.
"The most important thing is for you to blame Gina for everything that has happened. About her key collecting hobby, you have to add it was not just a hobby. She sometimes stole from the places from which she had taken keys."
"Those are lot of lies," she said. Much as she wanted Gina to be punished, she didn't want to tell lies about her obsession. She knew that it was something like an impulse. Gina couldn't control it anymore and needed help but the police would refuse to see that. She didn't want Gina to look like a common thief. "The police will see through them. I'm not good at lying."
"Then learn," he barked. "Get close to Gina and maybe you'll learn from her. Do you want to die or what?"
"It's the lie about her hobby that I'm worried I won't pull off. You can destroy Gina without that so what's the point?"
"Whose side are you on?" He inquired. "Don't make us rethink this. We don't want to let you go so you can turn against us. I swear I don't know what I'll do to you."
"I'll do no such thing," Liana said. "Just let me go already. The suspense is killing me."
RK's phone rang. "It's time."
"Finally."
RK got up and untied Liana's hands. She placed them on her lap and he tied them together.
"What now?"
"I can't let you see this place," he said. "I'm not stupid, you know. The first thing you'll do is report so that Hellen can be saved. I'll not take that risk, Tran."
He rummaged through a bag and produced a blindfold. He placed it over her eyes. "Stand up and let's go."
She stood up and he lifted her up bridal style.
"Hey!" She said, laughing.
He placed her down in one of the rooms and she heard him open a door. He went outside and later came back to take her.
"Get in," he said and Liana felt the door and climbed in. "You're in the backseat. I'll leave you at one of the picnic areas."
"Will you untie me when we've reached?"
"No, because you will be unconscious."
"What?"
He hit her on the head and she fell over, losing consciousness.
Liana opened her eyes and gasped when she saw the light blue coloured walls. She was in her room! She quickly sat up and looked around.
The door opened and Gina rushed in, hugging her. "Lia! I'm so happy that you're back. I missed you so much."
Liana put her right hand around Gina and smiled. "I missed you too, my dear friend. Who found me?"
Gina pulled away and sat on the bed. "RC Memorial athletics team. They thought you were dead and took you to the hospital. Doctors checked and decided you were okay. Your parents didn't want you to stay away so they brought you here. They'll be taking you for more tests."
"Why didn't you try to find me, Gina?"
"I tried."
"Please call my parents. I also need to talk to the detective."
"What are you going to tell him?"
"Does it matter? Do you want me to hide stuff from the police? I'm not like you, Gina. I want to try and save Hellen."
"I want Hellen to be free, too."
"Clearly not as much as I do."
"Lia-"
"Mom!" Liana yelled, leaping out of bed. She dashed out and met her mother at the top the stairs. They hugged tightly and started crying.
"I missed you so much my dear," Liana's mother said. Her father also climbed up the stairs and embraced her.
Detective Barnes was standing at the foot of the stairs.
"I need to talk to the detective," Liana said. "Hellen is still in that basement. I need to help her."
"Okay," her mother cupped her face. "But it's okay if you're not yet ready to talk."
"It's okay, mum." Liana used her thumbs to clear the tears off her mother's face. She turned to look at Gina who was standing at the bedroom door. "I have to tell him who's responsible for everything that has happened to me."
You're going down, she thought and smirked.
