I looked at Phil with weary eyes. "Uh, I should be going. My friends told me to meet them in about 20 minutes." I said, rising from my seat. Phil looked at me with...loneliness in his eyes. "Alright. Will you visit me later? I quite enjoy your company." He said, prepared to escort me to the door.
I smiled weakly. " Of course. I really have to leave now though. Bye." I left the room, Phil still inside with confusion apparent in his eyes. In such a large manour, I was certain to get lost. And that's exactly what I did. Scott stopped me. " Daniel. I take it you're trying to leave?" He asked curtly. I looked at him with saddened eyes. " H-he really doesn't remember, does he?" I asked weakly, my voice cracking as I felt tears prick at the back of my eyes.
"I hate to be the one to inform you, but yes. He has no recollection of those two years." Scott said, the corner of his mouth twitching. I sighed shakily, failing to hold in my tears. "I'll escort you to the door." The walk was silent and filled with pitied looks from the maids. " I truly am sorry." With that, he closed the door in my face.
Finally releasing the tears building up inside of me, I walked a few streets and slumped against the side of one of the older second hand libraries. I found my phone in my pocket and hit 2 on speed dial. " Hello?" PJ's voice greeted me. " Can you and Chris come pick me up?" I choked out, though it came out as a sob. "Dan, why are you crying?" He asked, concern dripping from his voice. "Just come pick me up and I'll explain." I croaked, my voice hoarse as my crying picked up and got harder. "We'll meet you at the park." PJ said before hanging up.
10 minutes later, I was sitting on Chris and PJ's couch, a cuppa in my trembling hands. "So, what happened?" Chris asked, sitting to my left, PJ on my right. "You guys remember Phil Lester, right?" As soon as I managed these words, their faces fell. "What about him?" Chris asked, paled beyond normal. Dan wet his chapped lips and set his still full cup on the coffee table. He twirled the silver band around his finger, the metal worn and familiar. "I ran into him today at the park. Since I looked like I was freezing, he invited me back to his manour."
I paused, almost unable to bring myself to say the next words. "He doesn't remember me." I whimpered, slouching over as silent sobs racked through my body. "So...he doesn't remember..." I nodded, silencing PJ before he could say the words I refused to hear.
He forgot about our promise. About our deal. About the meaning of the ring that suddenly felt stone cold and foreign on my left ring finger.
